TN caused by too many head injuries

I have had 2 MRI’s, both didn’t show any abnormality with the nerve or anything on the nerve. The only thing they can find is that my C1 vertabrae was way off, possibly pressing on the nerve. I am going to a chiropractor to adjust this vertabrae. Have had positive results with that, but still get the occasional attack. Last night, had the worst attack ever and it is still lingering today. Took some gabapentin which calmed it down. Has any one else had this kind of diagnosis? Can’t find what’s causing it so we will assume it’s the vertabrae?

were you scans thin slice scans? this is of great import; thin scan is key, regular scans are useless.

Shelby,
If/when (with hope) you go for 2nd and 3rd opinions, bring the ‘hard copies’ of the scans, they aren’t fond of CDs. bob

Shelby, Have you spoken to your chiropracter about whether your attack is the result of the muscles going into spasm and fighting to return to their dysfunctional position?
I have had head/neck/ jaw issues and have been exercising my jaw for 2 months. Overall things are vastly improved [no more nerve shocks] but at one point my facial muscles went haywire and I had spasms in places I had never had problems. Essentially they put up a hell of a fight to maintain the staus quo. Things have calmed down now and I only get pain when I sit on a soft seat. My next stop is the physiotherapist to look at my posture. I do think that things take time and as long as the overall direction is a positive one then we’re in it for the long haul.

You guys are a great resource, I have not thought of or heard of some of these things! Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. Praying you have a pain free day!

Had a MRI/MRA thin slice scan and it still did not show anything. Turns out I did have a compression. Have talked to many people who did have compressions that did not show up on the thin slice scan and then upon having MVD surgery were found to have compressions.

Shelby,
Even thin slice MRIs can miss a compression. If your pain gets too bad or your meds quite working, I would see a surgeon and ask his advice. I had a compression and it did not show on a MRI.

I have just come back from my ear nose and throat consultant who says that even though there is a loop around my nerve it doesnt seem to be touching it so doesnt know what is causing the pain - this has made me more fed up! - he has referred me to a neurosurgeon now but not sure he will say any different? cheers Tracy
