Tips for Survivoring extreme Cold Snaps?

Its been too long, but think we could use some help here to get through these brutal cold snaps.

Here are a few:

- always wear a neck scarf that you can pull over your face

- buy a balaclava or 2 for any time you are going to be outside for more than a min or so and use it with your neck scarf

- try to be active, your TN will be extra sensitive so try to schedule/plan an activity like indoor iceskating or mall walking b/c getting the blood moving helps a great deal

- make or have someone make a roaring fire for you to rest near

- use a heating pad on your face

What else?? Think its critical we try to help each other here

– Sometimes it’s just a good idea to find a quiet place and have a good cry. Especially during the cold winter months when pain levels are higher, and sometimes unrelenting. Truth be told, pain brings the serotonin levels down in our brain and makes us sad, so we need to be diligent with our self care.
– If I can keep up the daily elliptical workouts, pain is easier to manage, yet it eats up a lot of time.
– Daily hugs from caring people help immensely!
– Lots of cuddling with my hub is an easy way to bring up endorphins in the brain.

Good ideas Albee.

I use a buff face thingy. Someone here recommended them and i have found them great on a cold windy day because they stay up without me having to hold them in place. I do get some weird looks but I am past caring because it helps.

They come in a range of fabrics so I pick and chose depending on the severity of the cold and the wind. I keep one in my handbag all year round and always have a spare in the car. I ordered mine online but have since seen them in local outdoor camping shops.

I use the timer on the airconditioner so that the whole house is warm when i get up in the morning.

My cold weather survival list:-

A thick scarf, very soft material that goes everywhere with me.

Sunglasses - the glare from snow during daylight hours bothers my eyes and triggers TN pain for me now. That just started this winter.

Heating pad - I use it everyday and especially in the evening when I'm tired and facial pain seems worse.

Hot showers.

Sleeping at night with the comforter over my face so I'm breathing warmer air, minimizes the zapping tooth pains.

Reminding myself everyday that spring will come.

Me, I stay in the house as much as possible, I don't work so that helps!!

When I do go out I wear my jacket with the big parka like hood that is warm and soft and of course the scarf, you can't even take a chance of breathing the cold air, just thinking about it is hurting me!

Come on spring and summer!!
