This site is for EVERYONE to express opinions, thoughts, ideas, concerns, fear, advice, and so on.
There are SO many ways to live your life with TN-be they mainstream or alternative.
What works for one may not work for another. One person may do alternative, while another goes a different path.
This is hard enough without egoes coming into play.
MY problem ,in what I've been seeing and reading here, is a level of dismissal, intimidation, and outright threats by self-proclaimed "football" players and their posse-so to speak.
If one had something work for them, don't smear that they're a "paid advocate'.
Does that mean everyone that suggests a certain drug works for a drug company?
Of course not-that's silly.
The last I looked-this is still America.
STOP with the intimidation and threats-it should not and will NOT be tolerated.
This site is for EVERYONE-
REMEMBER THAT.
And if you never see me again on this site- remember my words. God Bless.
Actually, it's a private site. And you're the one threatening and intimidating right now.
If you are being directly threatened by a member of this site, please contact a moderator immediately and we will do our best to resolve the situation.
I'm the co-founder of this site. It's a wonderful place where people can share ideas and support each other. There are many moderators who are incredibly generous with their time and make this site work. They will help you if you feel threatened or need to discuss something. You can always email me too.
It's important to remember that this site is a privilege.
Please read the Mission and Rules tab in our site menu. As Crystal notes, this is a moderated site, paid for by the site owners and by advertising. Though the moderators do try to exercise a light touch, we are not a democracy. We cannot and will not tolerate advocacy for dangerous or illegal remedies or publicly punishing speech directed at site management or other members. With more ambiguous issues, we also work to strike a responsible balance incorporating minimum editorial censorship concerning controversial treatments that are not well supported by consistent scientific reporting and controlled medical trials. UCC happens to be one of those still-controversial treatments.
I would also point out that the correspondence you are referring to was initially PRIVATE, between myself and one of our members who has been an insistent advocate for Upper Cervical Chiropractic. I didn't introduce a smear upon anyone.
The UCC technique does help some people some of the time. And it appears to be safe. These are both facts which I have acknowledged. However, this treatment modality is not a panacea, and published results for trigeminal neuralgia are largely lacking or fragmentary. I have seen no published reports that establish anywhere close to the success statistics for TN that some members claim. Thus I believe it is both prudent and ethically sound to point out to our membership that there are still large questions of reliability and efficacy to be settled. Members are free to investigate and report back their results as individuals. Whether that exercise proves to be worth the money you will spend, is a judgment that each of us makes for ourselves.
I would think that ANYTHING that works for anybody ,as long as it is not dangerous or illegal, would be welcomed.
Mr.Lawhern-your bias against UCC has been duly noted. Please do not pass your dismissive opinions on someone that may want to try it.
Mr.Orn -Talk to Mr. Lawhern re: the threaten of boycott towards one of the members
And talk to Crystal about taking it upon herself to censor a member's comments which were not offensive in any way.And I notice this same woman is now gone from the site. Interesting.
And Crystal, before you start accusing me of threats and intimidation, look to yourself-especially in the case of above woman.
While we all greatly appreciate the valuable info given here, I, and I'm sure others,DON'T appreciate the "My Way or the Highway " attitude from certain moderators. This may be a private site- it should'nt be a fiefdom- Sorry.
Oceangma3, please take a deep breath and calm down.
It is my duty as a moderator to take action when I see private information re-posted for the purposes of argumentation in a public thread. I did not "censor" Ramonoa's comment. I removed the private message she was repeating on a public thread. And I would do the same if someone were re-posting your private messages in public threads.
Also, I noted where I edited it out, and made a comment so everyone knew what I had done. This is not intimidating behavior. I could have edited and not said a word and you would have never known. But I respect all members posting at this site, and will always be truthful if an edit is necessary, and explain why, and post it in the thread.
I find it interesting that you're attacking me by name and seem to be blaming me for the entire incident when I was barely involved. Regardless, I stand by my decision to edit that post, and I will continue to edit public re-posts of private discussions.
I am not aware of this "my way or the highway" attitude you reference. If you have an example, please bring it up. I always want to support members trying new meds or procedures that have proven efficacy. I think I have been pretty consistent with this throughout my time here.
On April 1st, you left me the following public comment, and this is taken straight from my public page, and I'm not sure why my moderation of a post would change this:
"Thank you Crystal, for all the kind, helpful words you have for everone here. You all are some of the most wonderful people I have ever come across- What you give will come back to you. GOD Bless, Bonnie"
I'm sorry that my need to edit a post has negated all the great things you speak of here. It's odd, actually.
Thanks for starting this reply out with insults meant for a child- If I remember correctly-YOU contacted ME with the remark-"And you're the one threatening and intimidating right now". That WAS your name in my mail, correct- so WHAT am I supposed to call you?
I find it interesting that you feel you're being wrongly blamed when you admitted censoring someone's comments. Unless they are threatening or offensive, that is NOT your place.
Yes, I did post those words to you. Should have waited til I got to know how you and "Red" regulate this site AND the members.
I'm not trying to insult you at all -- I'm trying to reconcile this.
I now realize you're angry about my earlier comment on this thread saying that you were being threatening. But you were -- you were saying we had to STOP and it "will not be tolerated", which implies an "or else", or a consequence, which is threatening.
Nonetheless ,I apologize for my comment because I certainly didn't mean to make you so upset and angry.
It IS my place to edit a post, that's part of my job as a Moderator. That's why I have the ability to do so. That's probably only the third post I've ever had to edit. We just can't take private messages and post them in public threads. The reason we have private messages is so that people can speak privately. Posting them publicly defeats the purpose.
I don't know what else to say.
I don't want to keep going back and forth -- I think we've both made our points.
oceangma3, I really hope you continue to use and participate in the site. I'd hate for your dislike of me to get in the way of that. The site is too good to let that happen.
Min-there is No hostility-and my pain is almost gone-thanks to a UCC-
and,NO, I'm not a "paid delegate"-as one person here suggested of any one that supports this.
Yes, this site is wonderful, Min and I will continue to support it.
It just started getting to me how rigid, dismissive and judgemental one of the "moderators" was becoming towards certain members here re: alternative treatments.
I just think that people should be allowed to post useful info without threat of being thrown off the site. That really bothers me.
Ocean, give it a rest. When you contribute as much as I do here for 10 or 12 hours a day, you can gripe with more credibility. For now, ENOUGH already. You've made your opinion known.
