Long story short -- my meds almost ran out due to insurance company error and CVS error. I was supposed to have 120 pills and I was supposed to take 2, twice a day. They were supposed to be extended release but CVS didn't fill it right b/c the computer said that my insurance didn't cover it. They gave me 60 tablets that were NOT extended release.
Now I have seen my Dr and he gave me a NEW script for a total of 800 mg a day (400mg twice, extended release), time-release because yesterday I had breakthrough pain in the shower so bad I was in tears.
He let me know (earlier than expected!) that my MRA/MRA was "normal", no lesions or tumors, but he DID find a small blood vessel that is touching (or is possible wrapped around) my right trigeminal nerve. He says that of course, we will stay on track with medicine, but this opens up the possibility of surgery if the meds stop working.
So, on one hand, I am very glad that surgery will be an option. On the other hand, I am very upset with insurance company/CVS for screwing up my last prescription so royally. Stress seems to be a major trigger and I have been so exhausted and crying a lot lately from the stress or the pain. The crying makes it ten times worse but I can't turn off my emotions. I've always been a crier, instead of a yeller, it's just the way I react to things.
So, I guess it's good news. I know so many of you have MRAs/MRIs that find nothing and I know how scary that is. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I feel very lucky, all things considered. Very hopeful, anyway.
CVS once screwed up one of my ex-husband's medicines back in the late 90's. Hopefully this will make you laugh -- It was our first year of marriage; we dated less than a year before getting married. I thought my ex "whined" an awful lot -- something was always wrong (physically and/or emotionally). He was prescribed Prilosec (it was not OTC back then) for stomach acid. He didn't know that CVS incorrectly gave him Prozac until he got his first refill and said, "Hmmm ... These pills look different." When he went to the pharmacy to inquire, they said, "Oops! We gave you the wrong medication!" I laughed because I had noticed during that month that he was happier and seemed to complain a whole lot less! We asked our lawyer about a lawsuit, but he said it wouldn't be worth our time because nothing bad happened. Anyway ... that's my story about CVS making a screw-up. Unfortunately, we're all human, and mistakes are bound to happen at the pharmacy like they do everywhere else. While that doesn't help you feel better, I hope my experience with CVS at least puts a smile on your face.
Stay positive ...
Thanks! It did make me laugh!
The CVS people were actually really nice to me and sold me two days worth of the prescription to take while the insurance is sorted out. (Yikes! 14$ for two days of pills!) I just have a feeling that I will be on the phone with the insurance company and pharmacy too much tomorrow. I try to save my talking for when my boyfriend comes home. But maybe the new dosage will get rid of the breakthrough pain. I have a lot of hopes that I will feel better with this higher dose.
Hey Melissa. Was reading your story, poor thing! I sooo feel for you. What is the meds you are taking? For as long as I can remember, my doctor gave me samples of Lyrica and recently the samples ran out and now I have to get an RX filled. Cost is very high and I am paranoid cause am not sure if i can pay and I sure can’t go without. I have some pain right now that won’t leave and am taking Max dosage of Lyrica and gabapentin. Would like to try different med, but don’t want pain to go crazy while experimenting. I praying real hard now as it is. Am so glad I have y’all to come to that knows what I’m going through.
