Recently my face pain has moved to both sides of my head and I'm noticing that my scalp (from the back of my head to the top) is very tender and sore. At times it's even hard to lay on my back when I'm trying to fall asleep. Is this a common symptom of TN?
Vicki, i used to suffer from this, but it seems to have passed. During the day I was having neck pains and the bottom of my head was effected, when I went to bed the back of my head felt very tender as did the sides, this made sleep so difficult.
I then started the amitriptylyne 1 hour before bed. This helped a great deal, but on waking I would still have a tender scalp at the back of the head, this went on for months although i was no longer having TN1 attacks.
I mentioned it to the neuro on my visit last week, he said he thinks i was having migraine attacks. I am not sure if he is right, but he did not seem concerned about it.
Thanks for sharing your experience, El. Always so nice to know I'm not alone. xx
It is common for me. My medication helps a lot, but there are still times, like today, when I have it. I thought I might be either resting in one position too long or rubbing my head on my pillow. My neuro explained it to me, but I was on information overload and missed what she said.
My trigger is the back of my head. It is a very specific spot. It has never gone away. I take more Trileptal at night and Lunesta, to keep me asleep if I happen to roll on to the back of my head at night. T1 pain, at least for me, is a VERY distinct pain. It is a pain you have never felt before and will virtually drop you to your knees. Not everyone is the same though… I hope you feel better, it sure is a crappy feeling.
I, too, have a very tender scalp on my TN side. It started after a failed gamma knife procedure. It's hard to get comfortable when I first go to bed, but it eases up so that I can sleep. My medication also helps me sleep.
I've been experiencing all types of pain but the worst for me is the burning scalp pain. It started at the top of my head in one spot then grew so to speak. If I'm really over worked and such I will put off washing or brushing my hair. The whole scalp will be very tender. Also, the back of my head on the pillow. When I have a full blown episode that lasts for hours I've found nothing that helps. Tears and sedatives. However, some days are not as overwhelming,. Giving up the mochas seems to help at times. Nothing is consistent. Just avoid touching your head or running your fingers through your hair and such. Sleep alot if you can.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know I'm not alone. Phew! Always a relief.....
I noticed having a lot of tenderness right before and during my TN attacks. Some days it'll happen after days of attacks. I used to get them before the TN started and I had my migraines. This would happen right before a migraine or right after.
It's strange I don't get migraines anymore, just headaches.
