Two years ago I had a successful MVD and was able to return to full time teaching. I still have daily twinges. I was recently named as one of 12 winners of the National Excellence in Teaching Awards in Australia. There is hope.

That's awesome, congratulations!
Your story gives me hope! Thanks.
Incredible! Congrats and here's to many more pain free years - cheers. Just 7 weeks post-op, I am hoping I have the same level of success you have had.
Oh thank you, hoping for MVD one day soon
Wow! Congratulations!!
Baba; How do you feel? I so want to do this I am tired of being a zombie with these darn pills.

Bobby; I am so happy for you! for both the Award and the successful MVD. I really want to do this. My brain is in a constant fog. I am on Dilantin and gabapentin. I am so sick of being on meds!
So happy to hear your good news! I'm always inspired to hear success stories. Thank you for lifting my spirits! :)
What is MVP? Thanks
I'm so very glad to hear someone's success living with TN. Much luck and continued good days to you.
Fingers crossed it happens soon. I was lucky that the decision was out of my hands. They just did it as I was in so much pain and the drugs weren't touching the sides.

An MVD is a Microvascular Decompression. Basically wrapping the Trigeminal nerve in teflon fluff. Works a treat.

7 weeks. Excellent. I hope you have healed nicely.
I am thrilled for you Bobby. I am set to go for MVD / Rhyzotomy surgery in the middle of May next month. It took two years before my Neurosurgeon would perform this surgery. I took nerve blockers, every pain med in the world and nothing worked, I had two gammas last year and the pain is coming back from second gamma. I want this over with. I live in Houston, TX in which we have the best medical care in the world in the Med Center. My Neurosurgeon is Dr. Dong Kim at Mischer Institute, he is a cracker jack and specializes in our condition.
The only thing that has helped me is that I take Ativan one or two milligrams a night to calm down the pain and help me sleep. It relaxes the nerves, this drug is given mostly to people who are going to get chemo to calm them down before the treatment. I suggest you ask your Doctor and try this drug until you can get a gamma or surgery.
I am so ready for this surgery I would jump on the surgical table right now if I could.
All of you hang in there. I was suppose to die last year from kidney failure because I was on way too many meds from this pain clinic. I have only one kidney to begin with and was told I had three hours to live. I made it, ha! Doctors don't know everything.
One thing is for sure, you must take care of yourself; eat a healthy diet, no dairy, no sugar, no caffeine, get exercise and keep your stress level down as much as possible. I worked for mean attorneys and had to quit my job because the stress was killing me. You have to make adjustments and get plenty of rest everyday. I am almost 52 years old and all this started over the pulling of molar 15, the dentist compromised the trigeminal nerve when he pulled it. Be very careful when selecting Dental Doctors.
Fingers crossed the surgery gets me out of pain. If not then I know I have tried everything I could do and will take it from that point on. Life your life everyday with joy. Our lives are just short to begin with.
Love and blessings to you all.
Kayla from Houston
Congrats and way to show em!!! I am so excited and happy for you. I underwent an mvd two years ago as well to actually fix a gamma knife scar tissue fiasco and have been pain free as well. Your story is an inspiration to us all!!!
I remember searching for success stories when I was suffering every day in total agony. So glad my story gave a ray of hope.
