Something new

since i am atypical, i noticed a treatment calledcalmarc offered at new england chronic pain center. its about 2 years old and offered at other places. its in the recent TN newsletter. they are in stamford which is is an hour from my home in ny. also some private places have it as well.

for those of us in the atypical group, its something.

im sending out my letters and reports to mayo, cincinnati, hopkins. im looking for any place that offers more in atpical or neuropathy.

The device is called "Calmare Pain Relief Therapy", and it appears to be a variation on TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). Several patients here on the site have written to urge caution in the application of TENS units to the face. In some cases, patients have been stimulated into major pain attacks.

Regards, Red

are there any studies on it. has anyone been helped. it is used at mayo. who developed it. there are no guarantees with mvds either. the choives are limited.

I'm going to look into it. My wife lives with major pain attacks. I heard that it has helped some...??? I'll reply after some research.

Here's a news clip regarding the Calmare Pain Relief Therapy:

I'm still researching this treatment for TN and ATN.

Sinecerely,

Tom

thanks. i think red heard about it. is it for real.

Thanks for the ribbon, Elaine48!

My wife, Rosario, is doing O.K. The ATN is the biggest controlling issue in her life though...

I've looked further into the Calmare treatment. I'm very hopeful. It seems to be worth a try. The internet is loaded with testimonials about it's long term pain relief benefits.

did you discover anything new? how is your wife doing? atypicals are at a loss. take care.

Calmare appears to be a variation on TENS. It is also NOT certified by the FDA as effective against Trigeminal Neuralgia. Testimonials can be bought and sometimes are. There are five articles listed on Calmare in the NIH's Pub Med database, and one of them is titled Inaccuracy in the article "Managing chronic pain: results from an open-label study using MC5-A Calmare device in Support Care Cancer".

Come to your own conclusions, of course. But my advice would be to stay away from Calmare. I think it is just another Chiropractor wishful thinking exercise.

Thanks Red.

I wrote a reply and pressed Reply to Discussion. I'm not sure where it is now.

Basically, I really appreciate your input.
