Has anyone been struggling psychologically with TN? I’ve had MVD surgery and TN is controlled now through meds, however, I have an Associative Pain Disorder as my Neuro describes it. I do have pain still but final verdict on MVD is still out. Probably a year.
Andy,
I do not know what associative pain disorder is. I am glad your pain is being controlled by the medicine. And I do hope you continue to get better. I have pain after my MVD and haven’t been pain free since the MVD. But it is pretty much controlled with medicine.

Hi Liz, how long have you been on meds after mvd?

Hi Andy-
I have had4 MVD’s and the DREZ procedure. In between the MVDs I got a little pain relief, but I just had DREZ and I am still on lots of meds and waiting for pain relief. I get really upset and down sometimes about everything I have done, yet I still have a fair amount of pain. Battling TN psychologically is extremely difficult…it really messes with your mind! Stay strong and maybe keep a journal…it helps me vent lol.
Ally, you are an inspiration! I’m much older than you and thought I was pretty tough. I pray you simply outgrow your pain. I truly pray you find relief. i’m not certain my surgery worked completely, but I think it did something. I’m grateful my drugs are still effective.
Best to you!

HI Shannon,
Thanks so much for your reply it really is appreciated. Im glad your pain free and I hope it continues. Just wondered if you had classic TN? What type of pain did you have and what did your surgeon find when he did MVD, apart from your brain lol.
Many thanks for your support

Andy,
I had an MVD in December of 2008. I got lucky and was pain free immediately following surgery and still am…I think. I do not have the shocks or burning sensations as I did before surgery and take no medication. I do get an achy tingling sensation sometimes. I notice it more when I am under stress. I still panic when I get strange feelings in my face, scared that it may come back. I think that anyone who has experienced the pain of TN has the mental and physical knowledge of its return and puts up defenses in the best way we can humanly handle it.
Wish you the best in your recovery !
Shannon
your neurologist is telling you that your pain is psychological. seems confusing; where do you draw the line between TN pain and psychological pain? how do you tell the difference between the two?
do you agree with your neurologist’s statement?
the researcher
I think he was stating that I associate former triggers of TN with Pain. The TN might be subsided but my mind and emotions may not think so…sounds reasonable to me.
I am feeling more confident about the procedure as time goes on.

Andy - Just say “NO” to struggle!
I’m grateful for what I have and what I don’t have.
Not sure why and I don’t question it; as always, my attitude is gratitude!
Give thanks that the meds are working…bob
