Really need some support!

Please someone I am really upset and need some understanding. I just asked to go parttime at my work because of my health and they accidently cc'd me in an email i think wasn't meant for me and said "She knows she will loose health benefits. Seems odd. I bed she is fading out in plans to leave" I am not planning on leaving at all. I'm just effing sick and can't work full time but of course I don't look sick and no one has ever heard of TN. It's so disheartening that they just think I want to up and leave after I took all this time writing a letter explaining my health condition and how I need to go to Dr's apts once a week and just can't do the full time schedule right now. :(

It is very difficult because a TN or ATN sufferer doesn't 'look' sick. It would be helpful for your employer to provide a letter stating that it is recommended you work part-time. An employer is not likely to overlook the recommendations in the letter.

My employer is the one who doesn't fully understand my need to go part-time...

I have the same problem. No one understood until I tried to come to work in the middle of an attack and ended up on the floor in tears and with a swollen face on an icepack. Even then, some people just have the philosophy that you work no matter what and if you can't, then they should find somebody else. It stinks. Thankfully, I work for two lawyers that have my back before the office manager. At least, I THINK I do! I sent management an e-mail explaining the condition -- hopefully they looked it up as some of my close friends did. Perhaps a note from your doctor would help?

Thanks CindyLou. I was really reeling from this. I hate to feel stuck inbetween those two which I feel like if I showed up on a bad flare up day and ended up with your scenario they would totally tell me to pack up because the job was too much to handle for me. But maybe your right maybe something from the doctor could be helpful.

I'm a put my cards on the table type of gal. If it were me, I would confront them and tell them I got the email and ask them just what they meant. That's me and maybe I"m too forward sometimes. But I bet it would catch them off-guard and they would have to back stroke! This advice is worth what you paid for it . . . .ZERO! LOL

It's so difficult when dealing with "unseen" health issues. :( I'm sorry you are having to go through this and I will keep you in my Prayers.

This is so sad, please get a letter from your Neurologist stating that you have a "chronic condition".Also, make a notation somewhere that this occurred. Please keep in mind you are in fact protected by the ADA ...

Best to you

Lol I'm def going to confront them about the email but confront them in a gentle way and reassure them I don't want to leave and that I just want to go part time like I told them the first time.

Get on the Family Medical Leave Act asap! That will protect you from any harassment/discrimination type of issues at your work. It's great protection for people who work and have any type of pain, not just TN. Also, your medical history is private. I don't know where you work, but it's against the law to be made to disclose your medical history/records except to your insurance company and your doctors. I know you willingly let them know and that may work for or against you depending on the dynamics of your job, fellow employees, etc. I would be as private as possible so you aren't considered a "liability." Just go the legal route with the FMLA. The only people who are privy to that information may include your HR Dept. Insurance Company/Coordinator, and your immediate supervisor/boss. You have rights!
