Can anyone please tell me WHY Lyrica is causing me to gain weight? I don't feel like I'm eating more. This is horrendous, just what I need, more weight to affect my health. Isn't TN enough?
I took Lyrica a couple of years ago, not for TN. I gained 20 pounds! As soon as I went off Lyrica I lost it very quickly!
Hi Sue, I was also on Lyrica but my neuro swapped it for another drug on Thursday. I have put on approx 2 stone, which has not left me feeling very happy about at all. I asked the neuro on Thursday why I have put on so much weight, he replied by saying that 2 stone appears to be the usual for people to gain and said it's because Lyrica, amongst other drugs we are prescribed, slows our metabolism down and thus our bodies don't require as many calories as we eat. Unfortunately there is nothing we can really do about it apart from,as my own GP said, eat smaller portions and exercise!!!! I have spent a fortune in the health shops on products which are supposed to help with weight loss, but to no avail.
I hope the above helps you to understand why we are putting on so much weight.
Wishing you well
Mandy : )
Well that explains why I am sleeping so much!!!! How much in pounds is 2 stone? I'm up about 10 lbs so far.
Hi Sue, Yeah, I seem to sleep quite a lot too and find it difficult to get out of bed on a morning but I put that soley down to the meds but you've got me thinking now. I really don't mean to dis-hearten you but there are 14lbs in a stone, so as you can calculate I've put on a heck of a lot of weight. What you need to realize though is that not everyone is the same, different people put on different amounts of weight, so fingers crossed that you don't put on anymore weight!
One member on here did give me some encouraging news yesterday, she told me that it seems that once the Lyrica has stopped people do start seeing the weight drop of. I realized after I had written to you saying that my Lyrica had been stopped that I'd got it wrong, I'm still on Lyrica and it was the Amitryptline which had been swapped, so I'm really hoping and praying that I don't put anymore on!
