Personal appearance

I remenber when my Neurologist said " and no makeup". I thought, OH NO!!! I have worn makeup all my life. Well I decided that I would really take care of my skin the best way I could.

It had become very dry and flaky due dehydration as I just had first episode and couldn't eat or drink. So I bought dome vitamine E Oil at Wmart for $2.98. It is very thin so I can spread it easily. It has made my skin more beautiful than before. I can wear a little light colored lipstick, the kind that has a wand and stays on forever and a little eyebrow pencil because I am over 50. My skin looks naturally good. It has made me feel better. Now, if I can color my hair. I am working on that. I would love to hear helpful hints from others, little thing that helps us feel better.

Have worn make up forever too,so I was not prepared to give it up either. I find applying a non waterproof mascara
Eas
Easy to use and a bit of brush on blush on days when I am not too sore.

So glad someone started this discussion. It's good to hear what other ladies do on those days when it's hard to put on make-up. Thanks for the vitamen E tip, Kimburlee...that's a great one. :)

I notice that ever since my first TN flare up I have had dark circles and bags under my eyes. I feel like a age a few years every time I get hit with break through pain. What do you do to help with puffy eyes and dark circles?

Great topic! we all need to feel good about ourselves! I do what I can whenever.... and suffer the rest by not looking in the mirror to hard or much.

Vicki, because you are worth, it if you know what I mean I use one of those concealer ball roller thingies that work well to disguise and have some caffeine in to supposedly to shrink the bags a little. It works as well as anything else I have used and can be blended with a gentle fingertip. You look pretty good to me though!

Aww, thanks, Jackie. That picture was taken 3 years ago before TN set in. lol. Wouldn't it be nice to have a private group called "The Ladies Room" or something like that where we can talk about the things women talk about without boring the men? ha, ha. I'd also like to discuss weight gain from the med's but feel uncomfortable posting it here.

What do you think, Jackie?

Oh, and I'd love to know what brand of make up you use for the roller concealer. :)

There was a little clue in the text SHHHHHHHH- Loreal! talk away about weight gain, it's a discussion group, feel free, there are many of us concerned:(

Thanks for divulging your secret, Jackie. ;)

I don't think I can talk about it here...too discouraging. lol.

Vicki darlin, forgive please, it's Garnier not Loreal!!

Oh Kimbulee

been to the shops and treated myself to some Vitamin E Oil, cost me about $3 here in the UK, wow, it's fab. Just as you say very light and easy to apply. Top tip, thank you!

Try tea bags that have been seeped and are cool to touch. I think cold would hurt.

Wow thanks for the vit e tip I will try, my skin is so sensitive, I break out over anything. I am 50 and still its a bother. I like the eye roller idea, I will try.

I use tehh rollerball to the coolness of the ball with the ingredients help reudce swelling, I use a little blush for bare minerals, but i have to hold the brush firm so it doesnt poke my face . For dark cirlcels I use a flat brush to move the concealer around. its less of pain than using mhy finger. Usually I use my heating pad to help my face feel better then apply makeup. But their are always those days when no makeup is possible Summer is helpfull becaues the sun feels great on my face. Its those blasts of AC that kill ya when you walk into a store. I actually have a heating pad for the car it plugs into cigarette lighter and when I am traveling it helps my face keep warm . I use heating pads all the time keeping my face warm helps to keep the triggers from hitting my face.,

Vicki, here is a great discussion that Jackie started about weight loss … http://www.livingwithtn.org/forum/topics/tips-for-weight-loss-please?commentId=2413731%3AComment%3A102502

Thank you, Tracy....I'll check it out. :)

Hope you're doing well today,

Vicki

Hi again, someone wrote that they had a hair coloring disaster, I ran a large hair salon for many years, maybe I can help? personally I never let anyone do my hair, I always do it myself, cut/color etc. What color did it turn out? and what color did your start with and what color did you use? what would you like it to be?

Let me know if I can help?

Joy

Hi Joy, I have been thinking about using henna. I am a natural auburn but greying. Have you ever used it?

I totally stay away from henna"s, they can really mess things up. Can make it difficult to use anything else. I would not recommend it. You can try temporary, semi permanent. It fades out. It is less damaging. Wait till it totally is gone before trying a permanent dye. try cinneman color, sometimes an auburn dye can give a fake purplie haze. depends on the shade though. Sally's beauty supply carries great colors, more than you could imagine, the girls are usually very helpfull as well. anyone can shop there, you don't have to be a hair dresser. But you just can't beat the conditioner that you get in a store box. Henna can leave deposits in the hair that can cause problems later. If you only plan on ever using henna then go ahead. Never tried them myself because i have been using permanent color on my hair for 30 yrs. & the hairdressers never recommend them.

I like a natural look, so I apply the color to the root area and comb/brush it through to the ends, only use plastics when dealing with coloring, no metals at all. starting with the back underneath to front, then the top through to the front, gives a nice varience in color. You can mix it up with different shades as well, and you can mix up your own, yes you can mix colors together as well to get a better result.

well. I hope this helps? Happy to help out.
