Nucynta

My pain doc prescribed Nucynta. It is supposed to be great for nerve pain. I am having a challenge getting my insurance co to cover. Anyone ever try it? Any feedback?

Because Nucynta is a Class II narcotic roughly equivalent to Vicodin in morphine units and costs $700.00 vs. $70.00 for an equivalent amount of Vicodin it can be a tough sell to an insurance company if it is written as a pain med or you don't have diabetes. BUT if it is clearly written for neuralgia with its new FDA approvals for such, it will be smoother. The problem is that its original approvals were for diabetes. Its still considered off label until very recently for other neuralgia. It may take a phone call from your doc. but should be able to be worked out. Good luck. I have heard great things. Be aware though that in many areas subsequent scripts may have to come from PM Doc.

My wife takes Nucynta for her neuropathy and is pleased with how well it works for her - it stops the pain without any side effects. She's been on it for about two years and has not had to increase the dosage. As stated in another comment, the insurance companies do not like to cover this drug and it takes a doctor's written approval every six months for us. There are company coupons that also help defer the cost. I've not tried Nucynta, but might give it a try. I'd also be curious to hear if any TN patients have tried it. Good luck.

I have tried it and it works great !
