Nucynta ER

Hi,
My pain specialist would like me to add Nucynta ER to my meds every miring and also add Nucynta 50 mg if I experience breakthrough pain.

I have lots if terrible bouts if pain now using tegrtol and Gabapentin . She 'd like me to stay on these but add Nucytna and some eastern meditations common to martial arts.

As for Nucynta, I am quite concerned about being hooked, feeling drugged and wanting more. I do not have an addictive personality. No addictions ever.

Can anyone share their knowledge or experience on this drug?

I have not used this medication but was prescribed it. I don't have the best insurance and my co-pay for a one month supply was close to $500. According to my pain specialist it is the newest pain medication and they have had great success with it. I wish you luck and would love to know if it works for you.

Hi, my doctor just talked to me about switching to this medication. I am currently taking Lyrica, Baclofen and Oxycodone. I am afraid that I will not get enough pain relief from it or I am also worried it will make me feel more “drugged”. I have had this issue with Hydromorphone previously. My doctor did offer me a coupon-type of thing for one month free trial of the nucynta. Perhaps ask your doctor and see if he/she knows about this offer or if it is available in your area. I did hear the cost is pretty high. And I HATE when you pay for a perscription and it’s expensive, but then you find out it doesn’t work or you have bad side effects from it :S it sucks. I hope more people respond to this thread for your sake and mine! Good luck with things, positive thoughts being sent your way!!

The Nucynta ER did nothing for me. The regular Nucynta does help me significantly. I have been taking it for about a year now when I start hitting a level 8. (I am a 6-7 normally) Once I hit a nine it will take several doses to get me back to a reasonable level. Part of that is because of the nausea and vomiting that comes with the pain. I tend to not keep the meds down unless I add Tigan in during those times. Nucynta has gotten me down to a 5 before but again, I don't want to become addicted either. One thing my neurologist told me though was it is not addiction if you are following the directions of the medicine and taking them appropriately. He said eventually that my body may get accustomed to the medication and a higher dose will be needed. That does not mean it is an addiction and we will cross that bridge when we come to it. In the mean time he said not to make myself suffer because I am afraid of that addiction. He said it is important to keep the pain at a reasonable level or I may find myself taking the prescription more at one time than I should because it gets so bad that it won't stop and the pain becomes unbearable. He monitors my usage and also he and my pharmacy are both in the narcotic registry. Nucynta has been a life saver for me. No it does not always work. It does work most of the time within 1-2 doses though.

Hello! I recently began taking Nucynta ER 2 times a day. Speaking from personal experience with addiction many years ago, and having tried many narcotic and opiates for my Geniculate Neuralgia pain, I do not notice any feelings of being addicted, feeling hooked or a need to increase the dosage, nor does it cause any personality changes in me, which is a sign of opiate addiction in many people. This has been one of the only medications I've tried in 3 years that even touches my pain. I have some pain relief with Dilaudid, but that's a dangerous one, since it's very easy to become used to the medication and need more for any pain relief. The worst medication I have been put on with addiction potential was Methadone. I got off of it as quick as I could, because the prescribing doctors insisted on a high dose that I was not comfortable with (I'm a mama, have to drive, etc.). I went through a nasty withdrawal from Methadone, but I did not want to become a zombie on it, and I refuse to have any doctor tell me I have no choice in my own care and healing.

Good luck to you! I hope my experience is somewhat helpful, though we all vary widely in how we respond to meds. I have been on such high doses of opiates for so long now that really only the Nucynta ER and occasionally the Dilauded help. My husband, on the other hand gets physically ill if he takes anything stronger than an Ibuprofen 800 mg tablet. I hope you find something that helps. Do you mind sharing what eastern meditations your specialist suggested?

Thank you! Have a good night!

Hi! I responded to Jean about my experiences with Nucynta. Perhaps it will help you. It does not make me feel drugged like some other pain medications have, and it's the only medication that has noticeably lessened my pain, on a consistent basis, Dilauded is really hit or miss for me. I hope you can get the coupon and give it a try if you need to try something else for your pain. I've tried just about every opiate, narcotic and OTC pain meds my doctors can think of. They didn't even know about this one- perhaps because it's specific to nerve pain, it's expensive and it's relatively new- 3 or 4 years I believe. It felt like a miracle after three years of constant pain to find one that takes any amount of pain away.Good luck!
