Now What!

I've been on the Tegretol for about 2 weeks now and I started getting pain in the middle of the night..

Now I woke up this morning and had some shocks..It's coming from my teeth and jaw only..I've started

taking Ibuprofen 600mg but now that's not helping..Having my MRI done on Tuesday..I pleaded with

them and they gave me an earlier appointment..What do I do now???just wait or try some other meds?

Am so confused..don't know who to call? my oral surgeon?? help

Sometimes it takes up to 3-4 weeks for the Tegretol to start working. It's possible you need more time, or you might need a higher dose. If you're getting the shocks, I would definitely keep on the Tegretol and talk to your prescribing doctor if it doesn't start working in another week or two. I know it's tough.

thanx Crystal..I guess it will take some time..I've had 2 good days and night with no shocks-I've increased the meds to 800mg-seems to work..

I just wanted to add that in the beginning I had to switch to the slow release version of Tegretol, the plain ol Tegretol just didn’t touch my pain adequately enough. So give yourself a few weeks and ask your doctor or Neuro how to increase on your own in case you need too. ( hugs )

right now i'm taking ibuprofen 600mg for breakthrough..haven't had a shock since yesterday..woopy doo eh? lol
