Newbie questions about TN

I have just been diagnosed with TN.

Doctor has prescribed Lyrica - but I don’t see any other TN web sites referencing Lyrica. Should I be on something else?

How common are remissions for TN suffers? This is my first attack, how long should I expect it to last?

Bill

Hi Bill, my TN is different from most that are on here in that mine was brought on by stress not something physical. The told me they found nothing wrong with the MRI. I have struggled with wondering if I have “real” TN. The pain is real I can tell you that, but it comes and goes. Whatever the case may be pain is pain and we all need someone to lean on and the people here are awesome. Danni

Bill, attacks can last for 2 seconds to 2 months in time…can get an attack every 2 minutes or only get one every two years…it just varies. Your male so u have a slightly higher chance of it going into remission than women do. Just pray that perhaps you had an infection and yours will go into remission permanently soon <3

As for Lyrica, Ive never taken it. Tegretol is what I take and honestly does nothing for me but making me dizzy and have no short term memory…I think it helps somewhat if i chew up like 5 of them at once sometimes…but at other times that doesnt help either so I have started to think that most of the medicines prescribed for TN are the “neurologist’s tylenol” until they have enough cases to actually do enough research to figure out how to cure it.

lol he gave me a 2100mg limit as needed for pain days I only take 200mg on days that my face doesnt hurt and Im prescribed chewable ones so i can have them in my system soon when I have an attack. I would never tell someone to take like opiate pain medications period and definitely not in high quantities…Please understand I stated tegretol its a non narcotic medication~~~
BUT~~since we are on the topic: Just Say No to Percocet LoraTab Methodone and Oxycotton (however its spelled <~~read it like i wrote it) They are extremely addictive and only take them as a last resort and never let yourself take them daily as you will become quite dependant on methodone and oxycotton. (Its like synthetic prescription heroin.) I had a close friend’s brother overdose on oxy’s because he didnt realize that they were time released and chewed them up. So please be careful with your meds everyone I know everyone is in pain like I am but always opt for the nonaddicting pain medication and dont be afraid to ask your doctor to prescribe you something different if they try to prescribe methodone or oxycotton.
