Nerve block

hiya, I've had TN for a few years now and after countless medications, I have been waiting for a nerve block? has anyone had one of these, and if so can you tell me how it went? I've been reading information about it and a lot of people's TN have reoccurred within a few months, I don't personally see the point in having yet another treatment which will not provide prolonged relief. any comments would be great!

Search box…allllll you can! are you MVD candidate?

Hi,

I had a nerve block in 2010 which reduced the pain, but it only lasted a month. Due to complications from the procedure I was left with headaches and optic nerve damage. I was told afterward by neurologist and Dr. Graff-Radford (which is a TN specialist), that there isn’t the research to prove they work. I know for some people they seem to help, but for me it didn’t.

I had a glycerol nerve block in April. The pain was back in a couple months, but significantly less pain! Used to be every day, now once a week. I am now getting a MVD on Wednesday to hopefully get rid of the pain for good:)

I never had a nerve block done as my doctor said in most cases it would be temporary. Could last 5 minutes or 5 yeras no way of knowing but it doesnt fix the problem. If you are an MVD candidate I would pursue gathering info on that procedure. It is the one and only way to fix the problem potentially for good

No. MVD not fixed for good… Surgeon will tell you what your personal odds are… Best way is a top best surgeon…puts the odds in your favor for better

but not forever.

Sorry didnt mean to imply that MVD solved the problem 100% of the time for everyone because it doesnt. What I meant to say is that it appears to be the only way, and best way, to have a chance of eliminating the pain forever. Everyone gets different results and your surgeon will give you the odds on the different potential outcomes.

Yes, many, probably too many!! I was having tons of trouble with not being able to get my tn under control with medications not opiods at this point. The nerve blocks were to see if theywould help numb some of this pain especially my eye pressure pain.I know I had a very good neuralogist he was top at Henery Ford.I had seen someone under him for about a yr. or so.She worked with me with the different meds. Like so many others, the meds. didn't work or I couldn't handle the side effects.I just checked my old journals it was more like 2 yrs. or spittle better. My nerve blocks were in the back of my head on the right side. They didn't hurt or anything They might of helped some for a lille bit.I know that if I (oh! I forgot, she called in the big dog when she run of of ways meds etc) put my finger on the spot) I think once in awhile it might of helped for a min. With tn who really knows!! I knew he was trying to help me and not just blow me off and I did not think the nerve blocks made any worse. We all are alike in ways with our tn but also we are so different with meds. treatments etc.
