Hi azurelle. My right side of jaw (ATN side) got sore from the oral surgery. It’s improving and I’m able to open my mouth. It still needs more time. Once in a while it get’s sore on it’s own because that’s where I had the MVD surgery. It almost feels like arthritis there but it’s never that bad.
The “real” toothache is gone after the RC on the bad tooth. I think the ATN is still there but I’m not sure because the area is still sore, but I can tell that it’s going to hurt less. I was walking around with a bad toothache for almost two years thinking it was all ATN.
Some of it is ATN, I believe, because of the filling two years ago.
When I had the RC the endo numbed me and left me for 15 minutes before he returned. On the x-ray machine I was looking at the pics of my bad tooth. I saw two fillings, one was large and more of a round shape. The second filling was long and thin like a straight stick placed vertically. I remember when the dentist did that filling. It hurt on the same side of my tooth where it all started. He pushed that stick filling into my mouth and it hurt immediately. So removing it should reduce pain, maybe?
All of this is speculation and I’ll have to wait until the crown is put on and give it more time. I know that dental work must be done sometimes and it can improve the situation.
I have two RC’s in my mouth now that do not even have a temporary on them. I’m eating soft foods, but I’m getting tired of it. Monday I go for a cleaning and Tuesday I will get a temporary for the bottom tooth (good side). I’m happy about that so at least I can eat normally on that side. Next I get the crown for the bad tooth. After that I’ll get deep cleaning at the endo.
The endo will take a look at my infected tooth on the bottom right (bad side but good quadrant). I’ll have to have him pull it. I guess I will get a flipper tooth with a possible bridge at some point. I’ve decided not to get an implant. It’s not worth the risk. It’s in the back anyways. My dentist says I will need a bone graft there because of bone loss, else it will cause all the other teeth to shift. Anyone have a bone graft? My husband had one at the same endo before an implant and he said it was hardly any pain, but he does not have ATN.
I had a good cleaning of my teeth by the hygenist today. I pointed out a sore area on my gums behind the trigger tooth and adjacent canine. The gum was very irritated for a long time in that one spot, maybe from food getting in there or my tongue touching it frequently because it hurt. It feels better oddly as the hygenist dug in there with the instruments. The only part that hurt was when she was trying to remove some food debris stuck in my infected molar on the bottom.
I’m glad I went. My teeth feel really clean and it helped my gums that were inflamed and sore.
Tomorrow morning I go for a temporary crown on my first root canal. The dentist is not sure if there’s is enough room for a crown, otherwise I’ll need to get a crown lengthening procedure at the endo. That’s supposed to hurt and I’ll need stitches. The dentist will x-ray the tooth and see if there’s enough room. If it’s close he wants me to make the decision to try or not, because if it breaks going in or is too tight I’m on the hook for the cost. I will then have to do crown lengthening. I’m going to take the chance if it’s close. I’m still not sure of the ATN. It does not hurt more, but less. We’ll see. jazmin.
I had the permanent crown put in the bottom left tooth earlier today. I’m sore but it went fine. I am so happy that the dentist was able to fit the crown in. I’m sore but it went very well. In two weeks I get the permanent crown there and and a temporary crown on my upper right trigger tooth. I’m happy that I’m getting my teeth taken care of. I was walking around with anxiety thinking of going back to the dentist after what happened. That anxiety is gone thankfully now. jazmin.
Great to hear that things are going so well! Hope your pain situation continues to improve. Maybe your story will encourage others to visit the dentist and get needed work done.
good for you jazmin! sounds like you’re really getting it all under control, and, hopefully, no longer having dental issues will help the TN branches settle down as well.
Just yesterday I had to get a root canal because of deep decay close to the nerve. I’ve been having a bout of TN pain on that side since last week. I told the endo about that and was nervous about the procedure as a result. He gave me about 6 Novocaine injections around the tooth. It went well, although I felt one jolt towards the end. The remarkable thing is … my TN pain was gone afterwards. The Novocaine wore off and still not TN pain. That’s a first. I have to go back to my dentist today to have a crown put on. My mouth is still a little sore from holding it open for more than an hour and where the needle marks were. Hopefully, fitting the crown will only take a mold and nothing more.
I cut a strip 2-3 inches wide from the short side of the patch and apply it directly along the nerve branch giving me problems. It’s not an immediate relief, it seems to build over time until I notice it doesn’t hurt any longer.
is the trigger tooth (eye toot) my endo wants me to do a root canal above a fake bridge and i have a cavity in the bridge due to drying meds to handle my trigemnal nerve pain and excess mucus production all the time. i have been 5 yrs trying to find the answer and drs seem to give up. clearing up an infection in the nose now and then hope to go on and maybe discuss reconstruction of the left nose. my face went numb in 2013 and the pain is generally right above that tooth and the back left palate is so sensitive i cant drink water or fluids to get off the stomach peg or i need to retain more water. i use the peg for pills and water and so some compleat formula. i want off the peg but it has become a crutch when i cant get down food. it is only left side. i think it may have been dental pain all along or the broken nose that routed the mucus so it wont remove (plugged) behind the bridge of my nose. have you tried botox any other treatments. pls if you know any i would love to try anything it is an extreme continuous burning pain.

like a straight stick placed vertically. I remember when the dentist did that filling. It hurt
[/quote]s ounds like you found the tn pain answer. that is what i have and i showed them by trigger tooth where an old abcess was and dentures are not possible for the bone structure is bad. i so hope my endo will geet the root canal done and get rid of the burning pain. then i can eat again. thanks for the information it makes me feel i have some answer to the atypical face pain
what is atn2 instead of trigemnal nerve. pls let me know may 14th i get a root canal on an old eye tooth and the pain is right above it. trigemanal meds never worked like gabapentin, carbenzipine and one other. nothing took the pain away but some when the ablated the spg nerve right where my nose was broken. i never knew it was broken but all this started right on the day i was it. it was bruised eternally and no black eye. i sure wish it would have shown i probably would not have this. they could have adjusted the nose quickly.
