Hi everyone I’m fairly new to the board but been a long term lurker
I have MVD scheduled for Friday in St. Louis. My question is if anyone had a diagnosis of the super ? Artery entering the trigeminal Nerve piercing thru and then exiting the nerve.
Neurosurgeons from both medical schools in St. Louis stated that my case was one of first impression. They stated that I had this from birth. However bad pain did not start until about four years ago Cyber knife surgery did not work and docs recommended MVD with neurologist dissenting as too risky
I’ve been on 6000mg of gabatin without complete relief and subsequent adverse side effect. So I decided to go ahead with MVD and ignoring neurologist.
I’m doing great. When I woke up in the recovery room no facial pain. I have slight numbness which surgeon had pre warn me. His concern was that the artery pierced thru the nerve which meant that it was necessary to sever smaller nerves to extricate the artery from the trigeminal nerve

Hi Reklr - just found your discussion. Hope you are still feeling great! I am also having mvd in St. Louis - in 2 days! - would love to find out which doctor you used (WashU? SSM? SLU?) and your experiences. I'm very nervous (especially about immediate recovery)
I had a similar experience to you - first neurologist told me I "wasn't a good candidate" for mvd. When I asked him why, he just said it was too risky and he didn't think anyone should do it. 2nd neuro (at WashU) was great. She eventually referred me to the neurosurgeon.

Congrats! I hope your recovery goes smoothly. The numbness will gradually subside.

First Neurologist told me the same thing too.I was undeterred. I (and you) did my research and have been pain free since my 7/2012 MVD surgery. Wishing you the best of luck with yours.

Neurosurgeon was bucholz at SLU. No pain from day one. Returned to work in one week. However I have facial numbness and ear that feel like it is filled with cotton. Numbness has increased in last few weeks – bucholz office does not return calls concerning problems
