I am getting excited and nervous for my “surgical date” with Dr Casey on Wed. Mainly hopeful that he will be able to relieve my constant pain, stabbing pain into my eye, ear and cheek, feeling of being off balance and the annoying pulsating ringing in my left ear. Yep, its a tall order but I’m going for it!!
If this helps, I might go back for my TN 1 symptoms on my right side. Too bad no 2 for 1 deals on surgery!
Thanks to all of you that have shared your journey with this relentless disease.
Yay Kathy! I have about 11 weeks now for my MVD with Dr. Casey on Oct. 30. I wish I could hurry up the weeks but I know as the days grow closer, I too will have that nervousness. Please message me all the details, good and bad, so I will know all to expect when I'm at Oakwood. I will say a prayer for you on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning that everything goes well and that the surgery is a great success!!
Where are you staying btw and how long are you planning to stay in town? I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for my consultation last month but am thinking of maybe going to one of the Marriott hotels that are quite a bit farther away (about a half hour) but nicer. My husband will need good wifi, printing/faxing ability while we are there so he can work from the hotel so the B&B is probably out.
Kc- you are so right! i’ve had enough practice getting ready. I am ready for the real thing now, i never did unpack after the denial it just seemed too depressing, so I’m ready:)
Marcelle- We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for the consult too. Kc recommended Oakwood Commons in Dearborn. It’s senior apartments that you can rent out short term. I work as an OT in a lot of Senior apts, so I should feel right at home. We rented it for a week, but they are very flexible. We have 2BD, 2 Bath apartment with full kitchen, washer/dryer, Wifi, patio. There is a new Bistro, workout room and walking paths. It looks very nice, check it out online. I read all the reviews, they were all very positive. My kids are coming with my mother-in-law the first few days so it will be plenty of room, by the time I leave the hospital, they will probably be heading back to Wisconsin. No need to sit and watch me sleep, plus my dtr is a freshman and has volleyball tryouts that week. Kind of feel guilty not being here to cheer her on, but she gets it. So sweet of my mother-in-law to come, that way the kids don’t have to sit at the hospital all day. I talked to Donna at Oakwood Commons, her # is 313-■■■■■■■■.
Thanks for the prayers! Oct 30 will be here before you know it! I will message you the good, the bad and the ugly…hopefully there isn’t any ugly:)
Marcelle, I forgot to mention, the apartments for rent at Oakwood commons are specifically for pts of Oakwood Medical Centers or family members that have a relative living at Oakwood Commons. We are staying in the model apt because all the others were booked. Its pretty cheap too, around $100/night.
Thanks for that tip, Kathy! It looks like just a 20min drive or so. I will call Donna for sure about that in the coming weeks to set that up. I'm assuming I'll be in the hospital on Wed night and then possibly Thurs night and then would need a follow up appt before I head home on Monday. Is that what you are doing? Also, do you have an appt scheduled on Tuesday for a checkup before surgery?
I had most of my pre-op bloodwork here. I will have the rest done the morning of my surgery. We are driving there on Tues, Surgery Wed at 1, have to be at the hospital at 11. So no official pre-op appt, but the surgical nurse calls a couple days before surgery to go over the details. I think my folllow up appt will be Mon or Tues haven’t heard yet, then we will drive home!!
I’d call Donna a couple weeks in advance. They were out of apts but luckily gave us the model.
All the best ladies on your MVDs. I am just waiting on my date. Should be in September. It is so nice that you can share information isn't it. Wishing you both a pain free future.
Thank you all! Patty- let us know when you get a date!! I’ll keep you in my prayer. It is nice to be able to share our experiences, I am so thankful for all the people on this site.
I'll be thinking and praying for you Kathy! Be sure to take it easy afterwards.
FYI - when we were there in July, we stayed at the Sleep Inn. It's not fancy but they have fridge and microwave in the rooms, nice walking path close by and it's very close to the hospital. It also has Wi-Fi, pool and hot tub. It's a little cheaper too so if you want to save money you might want to check it out. It's Sleep Inn of Flatrock, and I booked it a week before so it was $55 per night. We also brought a Pizzaz along so we could cook pizza, chicken strips or other frozen foods and it worked great. We never went out to eat! I'm not much for that anyway and after the surgery I definitely wasn't up to it.
Deej-Thanks for your prayers. I hope I do as well as you, Andria and Tiffanie are doing! I also am not a fan of eating out so happy to have a kitchen. Thanks for the info on the Sleep Inn,that is a great rate. I really need 2 bedrooms and a living room with the kids coming and Donna at Oakwood Commons was so sweet after I had to cancel last minute before, I’d hate to do that to her again.
Prayers sent your way last night and again this morning! Be confident that you are in very good hands with Dr. Casey. This will be the first day of the rest of your life and hopefully leaving TN behind for good!!
