MVD Surgery at Mass General Hospital

If there are any suffering from TN that live in Ma or anywhere in New England I highly recommend the facial pain clinic at Mass General. Dr Schweitzer and his staff are fantastic. I had MVD surgery on 9/27/24. It was an instant success. I had a vessel compressing in 2 different parts of the nerve. Never felt better. prior to surgery I was on 2400mg of gabapentin. 800 Mg of tegratol and 30 mg of baclofen. I am now drug free.

It’s great to hear a success story. Long may it last.

Thank you. My fingers are crossed that it will not come back. I have been suffering since August 2017. Seven years is long enough

Amanda,

Hi! I suffered with TN for 9 years, before I had MVD surgery in 2/2018 and I am still pain free and medication free. Best of luck to you! Nancy

That is remarkable. I hope to have the same results! Should have done this years ago

So happy for you. Hopefully this will be the end of it. Glad to hear you are free of the meds as well.

Really happy for you. Sounds like the best approach for your TN; unfortunately, I have MS and the cause of my TN is not the compression on the vien by the nerve, mine is the scarring of the nerve itself. No compression. No MVD for me. Mine is harder to treat. I’ve had two Gamma Knives, and a ton of Carbamazepine and Baclofen. Recently I had Radio Frequency Ablation of 2 branches of the trimenial nerve and I was pain free for 4 months and no meds; however I am now taking a minimal amount of drugs and very few shocks. Much better than before. Those with MS need to be cautious of procedures.

Hi, I’m really glad for you that’s a lot of medications. I’m currently taking 300 mg of the lacosimide and it seems to be working. I’m also had two mvds and the first one didn’t work at all cuz the doctor screwed up the second one I’m not sure. After the second surgery I was having strikes finally they got me in touch with this doctor in India and he prescribed Lacosamide. But I find that when my left sinus is stuffed it gives me flickers and my left eye so my doctor’s prescribed me three nasal sprays. Seems to help. But when I bend over too fast I get a little flicker in my left eye. So I just have to be really careful. But I’m really glad that you found your pain free life. Best wishes

Hi talk to your doctor about giving you lacosamide. I was having facial pain really bad. I’ve had two mvds not working. Lacosimide helps me so much my sinuses do clog up which gives me flickers in my left eye,so my doctor prescribed me three sprays three times a day. But I have not had any major series of facial pain with the lacosimide.
All the other medications for it was giving me low blood sodium, it’s a very hard experience, made me pass out in the bathroom from barfing and pooping it just was crazy had to go to the hospital. So I’m grateful for the doctor in India.
