I had Mvd in November 2015.Neurosurgeon found Artery attached to nerve.Surgery successful.
Unfortunately I now have same pain in face so neurosurgeon repeated MRI.Results found no compressions.
My neurosurgeons say it’s TN2 and there is no cure.
What medications work best.
Do you have times of remission
I am taking 1200 tegretol-60 cymbalta -20baclofen -
Thanks for any advice.
I can’t believe I am back on the meds and the heating pad.
This disease is horrible.
I had 2 months with no trigeminal pain.It was great .
So very sorry that it came back for you so quickly. I had successful MVD in 1998 and was blissfully pain free for almost 9 years. Then it came back :( I had a repeat MVD and they found that the teflon pad had slipped and there was a ton of scar tissue tugging on the nerve. They replaced the pad and cleaned up the scar tissue and again, I woke up without the awful TN pain. But it only lasted 9 months and came back worse than ever. I then had a LINAC procedure (like Gamma knife) but it did nothing but scramble my memories(which they said would not happen). Now I am on low dose (10 mg) oxycontin twice a day and klonopin 0.5mg at night. It controls my pain fairly well, but it is never gone. Sometimes I get breakthrough and take an additional 5 mg oxycodone. I have tried pain clinic, biofeedback, acupuncture, massage, chiropractor, and the usual meds (tegretol, gabapentin, lyrica, baclofen and the topical combos I found on this site) with no relief and many horrible side effects. I was forced onto disability and then retirement, because I could not do my job as a CRNA because of the pain meds. My question to all those who take narcotic pain med: how do you manage to work and what kind of job do you have. My doctor even put a driving restriction on my chart for no more than 5 miles in my familiar neighborhood....although I feel no kind of "high" effect from my meds :(
