A friend of mine recommended Harry van Lovern who is affiliated with USF and Tampa General Hospital. His specialty is TN and is very easy to talk to and a good listener and makes you feel comfortable. He performs 50 -60 a year with only 1 person who had to return over the many years he as been performing MVDs. I had my MVD on 4/20/2012 and was very happy with him and his staff and very happy with the outcome!!!
What is MVD and was it for TN? Please respond asap. Thanks, my dad is in need of pain management.

I had my MVD surgery last week at Tampa General performed by Dr. Samy Youssef, who is also with USF. It was for TN. So far pain is gone and as of this point no side effects to mention. Very happy with Dr. Youssef and his team. I hope to be pain free for many years to come.
Congratulations for your successes! I hope that you will remain pain free forever!
My dad is in great need ofa MVD and need a surgeon who is not only a specialist but kind and considerate. Would you recommend one of these dr’s?
I would highly recommend Dr. Youssef. I saw him at his USF office at Tampa General. I had spent 5 days in the hospital last month when I was diagnosed. I felt very comfortable with him immediately. He is very compassionate . He and his team are awesome. I couldn’t be happier or more pleased with him. I go on Monday to get my staples out and as every day goes by that I am healing from the surgery I am counting my blessings that my surgery was successful.
Hi Kjhens,
Did Dr. Youssef take and MRI, and was he able to see where the veins and nerve touch? I'm currently seen a Neurosurgeon here in Orlando, but he insists that he did not see anything in the MRI and suggested I do Gamma Knife. Please let me know how was your experience after the MVD. Thank you
Hi Nancy,
Did Dr. Lovern take and MRI and was he able to see where the nerve and artery touch? I've been going to a Neurosurgeon who insist that he did not see anything in the MRI and suggested Gamma Knife, but Idon't want to do anything like that. I live in Orlando and I don't mind traveling to Tampa. Thank you, Mitzie
Mitzi, yes I had an MRI and he could see the nerve and vessels touching. I asked about gamm knife, but he doesnT recommend. He also showed my family video after I came out of surgery. He said when he got in he could immediately see them toUching. I am 9 days post op and am getting over the surgery. I was in Icu for two nights due to being really sick. I have some headaches but am taking Tylenol only. I have done nothing since I came home from hospital so I have made sure I am recovering without setbacks. I will tell you I hurt like heck when I woke up but my TN pain was gone so I know that this pain will be gone soon enough. I can give you his office number if you would like. I am grateful to be able to be off all my meds since the surgery. I am slowing getting apPetite back and am glad to be eating and talking with Out being in severe pain.
Kjhens, thank you for getting back to me. Yes, please give me his number, I just went to pick up a copy of my MRI, I'm ready to make an appoitment ASAP. How long did it take between the time you saw him the first time to the time he did the MVD? Rignt now, none of the medications work for me, I'm scared to take them because everytime I take them the pain gets worst, and I can't sleep at all.
He is with USF at Tampa General? His number is 813-■■■■■■■■? Heather is the girl in his office I talk to. I saw him the first time while I was in hospital and they did MRI then. He said because I was young and otherwise healthy I was a good candidate for surgery. It was about a month between diagnosis and surgery. The meds were not working great for me and the pain was Awful ? Not to mention I could not function while on meds. I have been dealing with this pain for three years but it had escalated beyond control the end of March and I was at my wits end. Brain surgery is scary but I am so glad I did it. Good luck and Iif you have any other questions let me know.
Hi,
Thanks again, I'm calling him first thing Monday Morning!! I hope he finds me to be a good candidate, so far I have been quite healthy, until this happened. I think that if I do not hurry up and do something about it, the meds will definitely wreak havoc on my heath physically and mentally.
I wish you the best. I Rememer all to well the amount of pain and loss of a normal life. I will be in his office having my staples removed! Keep me posted.
If you get a chance, tell him about me and that I would like to get an MVD as soon as possible. Stay in touch about your success also. God bless you
Where are you guys from? Im from louisiana.
I am between Tampa and Orlando.
I'm from Orlando about an hour and a half from Tampa.
@kjhens.,do you think dr loveren is worth the 12 hour drive? Would you drive?
I didn’t see Dr. Loveren. I used Dr. Youssef who is also with USF. I would recommend Dr. Youssef and I would make the drive. I have heard good things about Dr. Loveren, but have never met him
Thanks! Thats good to know.
