I just had my 2nd MVD surgery April 2nd . My first being 2 years ago.
Pads had shifted and another vessel was completed wrapped around nerve. Recovery has been slow and painful and also ended up with an infection. My question is should i be able to fly without any difficulties ? We received a middle of the night phone call from the wife of a very dear friend who has been terminal and is now expected to go home
(Heaven) today. I would like to be there , but i promised my wife i would call surgeons office and get the okay. Ive left a message with them already. and the flight is roughly 5 hours just wondering what your thoughts are ?
Thank You ! i know i haven't contributed to the site, but i have been on here reading and it has helped me to stay sane these last couple of years.
I flew 2 months after my MVD with no problems at all. That being said I’ve never had issues with any barometric pressure changes (weather, etc). My surgeon mentioned to me after my MVD that some people do experience a twinge here and there during extreme changes like flying but that it doesn’t mean your pain is coming back or that the procedure was a failure. It’s just sort of your body’s reaction to the change and it may dissipate over time.
I flew a few days after surgery as it was done in a different province from where I live. NS expressed that it wasn’t a problem, I was encouraged to use an airport wheelchair from check in to airplane door as I was stil weak and a little unsteady. The flight was fine, although I did notice I was a little uncomfortable when taxing on the runway due to vibration but nothing painful.
I hope you’re able to be with your friend today, my thoughts are with you…
Mimi
Edited to add my flight was 2 hours approximately.
