Have first MRI this week…am kind of freaking out, having read all kinds of things about claustrophobia, panic attacks and all that fun stuff. Anybody have a hint or two as to how they got through their MRI without going bonkers? : )
Ok ...first thing is keep really calm...take a pill if you have to....I wasnt prepared for the MRI scan either...so it was a bit of a shock....
Then what you should do is lie there...eyes closed...and just think of something really nice....
Mine took 20 mins....Im not sure how long they are really....maybe they are all about 20 mins....but seriously...take your mind to a happy place and concentrate on that...and it will soon be over....good luck
Thank you ladies,appreciate the advice!
I have my best naps in the MRI machine, just breath deeply, stay still and close your eyes and sleep :). Helps I suffer from fatigue … I need one every 6 months to monitor a tumor removal. Good luck, u may want to practice meditation before you go, they say looking up when your eyes are closed helps relax the body. Not sure why this works but it helps with my meditation.
Hugs,
Tracy
I suffer from extreme clausterphobia. I was perscribed a valium beforehand. When I checked in, I asked the best time to take the pill. They came out and told me. During the procedure I had no problem with clausterphobia.
However, if you have a trigger with ear plugs or having something against your face, you need to call ahead and find out how they will deal with that if your pain is triggered.
Thanks Lisa ! I picked up my relaxant yesterday…glad to hear it helps!
