I’ve been diagnosed with TN, she mentioned atypical (type2) but its not been confirmed that its that type.
I was wondering if I have the right to request an MRI scan? I’ve been in constant agony for over 2 weeks and it feels like the pain is becoming more prominent. (If that makes sense)
Yes, you need to have an MRI. It is used to rule out MS or a tumour. And you need a referral to a neurologist.
I have Atypical TN and believe me--you want to take care of it because it can get worse :(
I take Amitriptyline as well. It really takes some time to start working which I know can be very frustrating. Are you still taking it? Or have you tried anything else?
You are so young and I am so sorry you are going through this.
I have a young daughter, too, so I know what you are going through. It is so difficult being in pain and trying to take care of a little one. I find that my patience is so short. I end up feeling so bad about it :(
Thank you… Yes i’m still taking the amitriptyline, i’m currently taking 25mg. When ive been reading i’ve seen MS mentioned a few times-but i’m presuming i’d have other symptoms the same with a tumour. I’m going to make an another appointment with my GP and ask for a referral.

MS and a tumour can cause TN type pain. By ruling them out you are left with TN. Since there isn't an easy way to diagnose it's important to rule these things out.
I didn't receive relief from Amitriptyline until I was at 40mgs and that is still a low dose compared to what others' take. I hope it works for you. There are other meds to try if it doesn't.

Like the other respondents, I agree that you need to have an MRI to first rule out things and then to see if it can be determined "what's up"
Also, YOU ALWAYS have the right to request any medical procedure. It may or may not be in your best interest, and insurance may not cover it but it's your body.
