not that i'm counting on an MRI scan - because most of the cases it shows everything is OK (although the person is in SO much pain).
i've done and MRI a year ago. it was all OK (of course).
now the neurologist wants me to do another MRI (i asked for it). and i asked for the best machine and he reffered me to a 3 TESLA.
i read here a discussion about it.
but in the end - is there a case here that someone got somthing shown in an 3 Tesla machine that a 1.5T didn't show ?
also my neurologist said my last MRI was not complete (meanning not all the head was shown). although it was a full head scan. and although many many other doctors have seen that MRI and never mentioned anything.
i wish my english was better so i could translate what he wrote in the refference to the new MRI.
Could you put the doc's words into a translator on the web? I often use it for translating words/sentences from english into spanish and vise-versa. There are a lot of language options. Just google translator/ translation.
Hi Nir, From what I have read on here, your TN2 (constant pain) was probably caused by dental treatment and not because of a blood vessel pressing on the nerve. It will be very interesting to see if the MRI does find something. Please keep us informed. I have often thought about you and how you are doing, I am glad to hear you have not had lots of teeth removed! I am sorry to hear you are still in lots of pain are you taking any meds at all?
I agree with Lynda, I often use Babblefish in connection with my work. It has a free section where you can type in and click and translate. It is good to see you back with us Nir but so sad you are still in such pain. My MRI only shows up a vessel in the vicinity and it is assumed that when my blood pressure is raised it swells and then connects with the Trigeminal Nerve. Subsequently I try to keep calm and not stress, not easy with TN
as i wrote here - although MANY MANY have thier theeth removed and still left with pain. i PERSONNALY know people in ISrael that all the doctors warned them that thier major pains weren't from the thooth- and they went alone and removed a tooth - and the are now perfectly HEALTHY persons. no pain at all. althoug denatlly - there was nothing wrong with thier tooth . only after removing the theeth - it was shown an inflammation under .
i'm with great pains every minute. trying to hang on. want to live - but don't know how it'll end.
When I started seeing my neurosurgeon prior to my MVD he had me have what he called a FIESTA MRI which stands for Fast Imaging Employing Steady State Acquisition. His secretary also called it a blitz MRI but that was over the phone so I may not have the spelling correct or even have heard it correctly. I had this type of MRI done twice and from what I understand it uses finer image slices than a standard MRI and allows them to see better detail. My first MRI showed only blood vessel compression on the nerve but my surgeon felt I was still a candidate for the surgery but not an ideal one. He said I would have about a 70% chance of success if I decided to go ahead with the surgery but that the MRI doesn't always show everything. I figured 70% was better than 0% so I decided to have the MVD done. When I had the second MRI the day before the surgery they seemed to be a lot more confident and my surgeon told me he thought there was a 90% chance of success. I was too nervous to ask why his estimate had changed but I believe he saw something different on the second MRI and during the surgery he found a cerebral artery compressing the nerve.
