Medicine Question

I am 39 and was diagnosed 1yr ago September. I have High Blood Pressure and have a Kidney Disease. My neuro seems to believe that I suffer from headaches in my face but I dont believe that.I believe that I truly have TN and thats what I was 1st diagnosed with. I am on Topiramate. Since Sunday I have had some really bad head pains and cheek pains so they had me take more pills during the day. Today I just felt like I had an anxiety attack, and felt horrible. I even stayed home church this evening which is NOT me.

My question is What type of meds are you guys on? How do I fight this?

Thanks for listening

Christy

I am on Tegretol but I don't know if you can take that with kidney disease or not. I have type 1 TN which is the electrical shock-type pains. If Tegretol takes care of it initially, then that's kind of how you get your diagnosis. Tegretol has kept me under control for the most part, but I am currently having a little flare-up. I am going to watch it over the next couple of days and if it gets worse,I will check with my doc to see if I need to increase my meds or add a new med. Hope you get some answers soon!

Hi Christy,
First, I’m sorry your having so much pain right now. Next I would fire your neuro. Headaches in the face? Really I’d like to see what Red has to say about that one. That is just such a whooper, either your neuro does know what he/ she is doing, does not care enough, or is way over their head. Sorry I get a little mad at what doctors tell patients.

As for medications look up the face pain enough area. It’s up at the top in the right hand corner. This will give you an idea of some of the medications available to combate TN and help kick that pains booty. Everyone is going to need to use different medications and combos and dosages mentioned in the face pain area, since TN acts differently from person to person, and each person’s body reacts differently to medication.

But to answer your question I’m on 400 mg of lyrica a day, and some opioids. This does not make the pain fully go away for me, but rather controls my pain levels.

I hope this help you a little bit. Sorry it’s not the greatest answer either.
