Medical Marijuana

I'm so glad I was lucky enough to get told by my neuro that I had ATN without criticism . It also helped that I had absolutely no evidence of anything wrong with my teeth the 8 times I went to a dentist which fits the diagnosis more squarely. I'm sorry you're not being taken seriously by your own doctor. I hope you find one that specializes in ATN so that you can get better treatment.

I know exactly how you feel. I saw 2 nueros, 2 oral/facial pain doctors, and they all said i don't have TN because I don't get lightening strikes. I told them you don't have to have lightening strikes and they ignored what I said. I learned about TN and ATN just from googling facial nueralgia. I can't believe that these doctors treat TN and don't know about ATN. M aybe they need to read this site to learn about it. Don't give up. I will keep trying to find a decent nuero who understands and treats ATN. You should too. Where do you live? I am in Boynton Beach, Florida. If you are anywhere near me we can let each other know which nuero not to go to. Gizmo

ell finally went to a neurologist today. I feel like it was a flop!
The dr acted like it prolly was not nerve damage from a tooth exstraction. All Drs try to cover each other's ass! Well I KNOW that is what happened. And then his exam was all about type 1 TN...which is not what I have...the sharp stabbing pains that come and go...NO! Mine is type 2...constant dull aching tooth ach like pain. I heard that most drs even some Neuros don't even know much about the type 2. I am so down right now.

I live in a state where M is illegal. But I have tried it recently to help relieve the pain when I just canā€™t take it any longer. But after two years now I will have my first appointment with a pain management Dr. Now I am afraid they will do a drug test and think Iā€™m a drug seeker. Iā€™d rather not smoke the stuff if I donā€™t have to. What should I do???

I don't think they will drug test you. They are there to work for you,not against you.If it comes up,be honest and tell them MJ has helped you some in the past and you use it occasionally for relief. That's my feeling anyway.Good luck.

If it is your first appointment, just be honest - if they then want you to sign a 'contract' that you will no longer use that type of drug, you can make that choice at that time. Just be honest. What they don't want to see are signs of duplicity, because that is one red flag of an addictive personality.

I don't know if it would work for my pain...but I know it makes me paranoid and anxious...even more than normal. This is not good when I fear the pain source. Who knows what kind of wild ideas I might come up with. May work for some. Not willing to try, at least not now.

I am so very disappointed. I went to my first appointment with a pain management Dr today. He will not prescribe to me what I know helpsā€¦Klonopin. He said no it is addictive. He told me to continue taking my Neurontin and he added Cymbalta to that. I donā€™t think that is going to help my ATN pain. I am so down, but I wonā€™t give up. Got to find the right Drā€¦as I live in pain.

Yes. I know of others who use it for pain. I've tried it and omg, it is life saving. I can only hope that here in the "City of Medicine" we will someday have the use of medical marijuana. Have you ever tried it?

OMG, My doc, a Neurologist says that what Klonopin is for. It is specifically recommended for TN. Sounds like your doc may not be current with the latest medical information. I would not be afraid to ask him. There have been studies and it has helped me greatly. I know how disappointed you are. I have to ask you to let the klonopin work.. I promise your life will be better. There aren't too many medications that aren't addictive if they help with pain or anxiety. Do you notice that your pain is more intense when you are under a lot of stress? Klonopin will help keep your nerves relaxed. Just want to encourage you to stay strong, find some kind of daily thought that will inspire you to get through the day, The Daily Word www.dailyword.org is easy and free if you just want to go there once a dayTalk to someone if you can. Let me know and i'll be here for you. . Depends on your faith. Take care and I'll be thinking of you. Julz

This is a good question to open up again since the State of Washington where I live has made selling it legal. Well? How goes it with anyone who has had success with using medical marijuana for TN?

I have a doctors note and its all that works for the pain. I use a strain that has less ā€œhighā€ and more nerve pain relief. I also take tegretol, gabbapenten and a couple of other daily drugs. However, when the pain breaks through itā€™s all that works. I found a link on a government research site that recommended it. Good luck

I'm in WA (Seattle) and have had a medical card for 2 years. I used to grow it myself but it's a real pain in the butt.

Supposedly the price is supposed to triple with the recreational law that passed when they tax it.

If you come to Seattle, it's $75/year for a medical card at the "Hope clinic" in the U-district. There are several hundred dispensaries if you have a medical card. There are also delivery services that don't require medical cards anymore since the recreational law passed.

The best products I've found are hashish, cooking oil, and RSO oil. There are also private clubs for medical patients where you can get massive discounts from individuals growing it locally....

I heard that the charlottes web strand is the best for our kind of pain. Can any of you get that? I canā€™t of course cause Iā€™m in Arkansas.

A lot of years have passed; but very long ago in high school, I overdosed on mescalin (sp?). It was like movie theater drama horror. After that, it took a very long time for my brainā€™s chemical balance to return to normal. Recreational drugs became out of the question after that and I have remained fearful of taking any since. So, marijuana, even the kind that doesnā€™t get you high, is a drug that I am afraid will flip me back into a bad trip once again which maybe this time I will not survive. Anybody have experience with a similar situation?

Wow Notafraid, I had a mescaline experience when I was a kid and loved it. Never met anyone else who has tried it heh.

My dad died when I was 10 and his hippy brother started taking me to central america on his entomology expeditions catching moths/butterflies. On one trip we picked a box of peyote south of Laredo TX in the mexican desert. It tasted like bile, so nasty.

Mescaline and marijuana are very different drugs. I, too, had a couple of experiences with mescaline when I was young. They were "mind-blowing" -- with an hallucinogenic high and an hallucinogenic low. There seemed more than an element of danger in both the high and the low, but I emerged unscathed and not sorry I tried it. Marijuana, I understand, comes in many varieties and strengths, so I don't put myself forward as any kind of expert. Indeed, I've only had the one chocolate bar, gifted to me by a California friend, in recent decades. My experience was very positive in that it tamed my pain -- or else, as Dr. Casey puts it in the video now circulating, it tamed my suffering from the pain. Unfortunately, it also got me high, and being high, I got hungry, and being hungry, I cooked, which in itself posed an element of danger. Put it this way: I wouldn't have got behind the wheel of a car in my state. Driving with distracting pain is tough enough as it is (in fact, I have tn2 and can't imagine how anyone drives with the electric bolts of tn1, which I had once). The fact is, I felt pressure and not pain for a time and, of course, would want to explore this evil drug's power to do good. My state has MM, but of the highly Puritan sort: you have to be terminal, pretty much, to get access. And I realize (now) that transporting it by air could land me in lots of trouble. Also, I'm sure the kind that works on pain without making you high is the kind I need, and there's simply no way I can get it, whatever it is. I think in 10 years at most, this country will finally get civilized on the subject of pot, although maybe not in Arkansas.:)

I live in California and got my MM card. I was advised to try the harlequin strain for painā€“it didnt work and I ended up high and still in pain LOL. I then tried strains for seizures, low THC and high CBD strains, edibles, tinctures etc. The only type that came close to helping was the low THC and high CBD edible ā€œbang barā€. It relaxed my body with out the really high feeling. It reduced my pain but did not get rid of it. I donā€™t like the feeling of being high so I decided to stick to my Norcos instead.

I only recently heard about Charlottes Web Oil, and I am in Colorado--actually Colorado Springs, where the dispensary is that stocks/sells it. I got on the waiting list, and they are getting ready to start moving down the waitlist October 1st. You can have this oil MAILED directly to you. I can't wait to try it. You can sign up for the waitlist HERE:

http://theroc.us (I think you click on Become a Patient and put your info in there)

I just tried a THC-A transdermal patch and it REALLY diminished the pain for me, with little to no psychoactive effects. They were out of the CBD patches, so I haven't tried that yet. I have the "type 2" or atypical type on TN where it is constant pain when it kicks up...and it's kicking up right NOW. I'm dyin' here, the regular MMJ stuff that has helped before, is not helping now for some reason. Well, mostly I just haven't found the same oil that helped before :-(

I've tried it and felt that it did not help. It almost made me feel it more... I would of liked it to work because I hate taking meds that make me look like a zombie everywhere I go. It is also a safer choice than the chemicals in the medications.

I previously replied about bang bars, well I have been using an edible called cheeba chews that are only 2 percent thc and high cbd. They help relax my muscle and help a bit. I have to swallow then though bc they taste horrible.

Thank you, I'll be looking into different options until I find the cause to my TN! Do the Cheeba Chews give off a buzz even though the THC is very low? I have never like feeling high off marijuana...
