Makeup as a trigger?

Does anyone else have a problem with makeup? I was completely fine this morning when I came to work...yes, i came to work with no makeup on...i do that everyday, lol...but after i put it on...BOOM...there it went like a lightening strike to my face! Anyone else experience this?

My trigger is application. No problems when it's on. Touching my right cheek is like tasering myself sometimes!

YES! Putting it on can cause an attack....

My problem centers around foundation. I cannot use a sponge or fingers, or even a "true" foundation brush. I went down and talked to the makeup artist's at MAC and this is what they suggested as something that puts less pressure on the face and for the most part, it has been the best answer to the problem: http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/146/1391/188-Small-Duo-Fibre-Face-Brush/index.tmpl

It is a very light touch to the face and you do not have to press as hard..... on bad days I don't even try. But on good days, this is a life saver as it has not triggered anything yet.

I have noticed that putting on foundation is a trigger for my pain as well. I have, over the past several weeks since this started and worsened, begun to fear putting foundation on in the morning!!

An area below my eye has become a problem spot for me. Putting it on Is not too bad as i avoid that area ( i only use light foundation and mascara ) but taking it off, is what i hate. The following morning I have a panda eye, as too afraid to take the mascara off properly.

On touchy days I stir clear of foundation and blush. I just put on my liner, mascara and lip gloss. If I mess with my cheeks at all…ouch! I hope this helps.

it did the other day, from the cold in the beauty parlor. 3 branches went crazy. heat stopped the attack. never know what will happen.so what should i do? stay home and avoid all air conditioning.

Oh, yes, yes, yes. Most of the time I can only use very light makeup on my face, and not much of anything around my eyes. I have found that the Vanicream light lotion is liquid enough to usually use as a moisturizer, but even putting on eyebrow pencil is difficult. The only area not affected much are my lips within the lip-line.Usually the pain is immediate, but sometimes it begins as an increase in the ache and later the sharp pains pop up like ill tempered prairie dogs. Did your pain last all day?

Jackie, I laughed at this, then felt like a total jerk. It's not funny in reality....I guess my sense of humor is a bit warped. Or maybe it is because that is how I handle everything, and it gets away from me at times (I am fun at funerals). I am sorry for your pain, really.

It always hurts when I put on eye makeup.

I am still new to TN, but when I put my foundation on and I get near the left side of my nose where it meets my cheek, I get weird sensations. I try not to touch that area right now. But it definitely hits me when I'm putting on makeup. Glad to see this on here and it's not just me!

Eyeliner does it for me. Mild pain, like a bad ache rather than the full-on TN attacks I get.

But I refuse to live without eyeliner lol! Rather than having to use a pencil sort which I have to pull my eyelid to get on properly I wet-line with a brush and mineral eyeshadow. Then it's a very very light touch rather than pressing on.

Wet an eyeliner brush with some water, dip into mineral eyeshadow powder and then swirl it to mix on the inside of the lid of the pot of powder and then apply. People always compliment me on my pretty eye makeup and even if you just do this without any other eye colour/shadow it makes a really awesome difference.

Ironically, I'm still learning what triggers me and causes my pain to worsen, and today, it was my eye liner. Usually it's my foundation around my nose - today the eye liner did it. I don't know if it's cause I read your post or not Porcelina! Weird. Thanks for your tips though - I will be trying them for sure!

Foundation when its acting up is horrible from cheek down to chin, I try and get it all applied and then bear the pain to finish the task, I am okay once on.

When of my TN is really bad I have a little spot of pain area on my lower lip, applying my lipstick is of course an absolute nightmare. Anyone else get this?

Yes! my lip is also horrendous pain, right now to be exact. My lips are really dry because the pain in my jaw is making it so hard to drink all the water I normally drink but I try to put chapstick on and the pain in my lower lip hits like a shock.

Knock on wood, mine doesn't effect my lips. Just my cheek, nose and eye area. So the foundation and sometimes eyeliner effect it. Thank God cause I love my lipstick.....lol.

I really try to "dress" when I feel up to it, I think I feel better overall. Usually by the time I have finished brushing my teeth(HUGE trigger),I have to wait quite a while to try applying makeup. I was wondering if anyone had tried the mineral foundations? I take really hot baths when my face is really painful after brushing, i have more success getting makeup on without intense pain. it is still "strikes" some, just not as bad. After it is on, I am good to go!

Me too ... I try to put makeup on and jewellery etc to make myself feel a bit better. I don't use foundation as a general rule anyway (unless very special occasion), I have mineral stuff for that. I swear by mineral eyeshadow because you can use it dry as an eyeshadow or wet as an eyeliner so you are really buying something that will do 2 jobs (and even more really - think of a pink as a blush also etc!). Also, mineral makeup will never go off. And you don't have to buy the top of the line stuff too, there are plenty of cheaper brands that do mineral nowdays.

I LOVE mineral make up of any description. For me a bog-standard Avon one does the job very well. I am a convert forever now!
