Has anyone here had MVD or other facial pain procedure from a Kaiser surgeon in the SF Bay area. If so, your experience and recommendation please.
Also has anyone wanted to see an outside of Kaiser surgeon and were you able to manage that referral from Kaiser to an outside facility?
The husband of a friend had a MVD at Kaiser Redwood City…successful as far as I know. It was about a year and half ago and we have moved away from the area. Good luck. I have had 2 MVDs at UCSF. The first lasted about 5 years and my last was almost 3 years ago, keeping my fingers crossed!!!
I had mvd at UCSF in 70s. One of the early ones that dr wilson retired now deceased did. Lasted 15 years. Kaiser surgeon cut nerve causing numbness top of head to chin. All left side. Now have TN on right side and don’t trust Kaiser surgeons two of whom said risk for numbness too great. Maybe true but I want an independent of Kaiser opinion. Want UCSF opinion
Hi ekay
Have you tried searching using the magnifying glass tool near the top, just to the left of your avatar? (It’s grey and a bit hard to see on some monitors.)

Did this on my phone and full of oops… re do… I had my MVD at

I don’t blame you for not trusting Kaiser. Had some bad experiences with them not related to TN. A co-worker’s spouse was sick and they had to get HR involved in getting Kaiser to let her go to another facility besides Kaiser. That was many years ago things may have changed. Do what you have to do that is best for YOU. Best!
I had MVD surgery in Redwood Coty with DR Efron a few years ago. He is amazing. His bedside manner is “tell it like it is”, but I’m ok with that. He is highly competent. Now I have TN on the right side too. I don’t live in the area and there isn’t Kaiser where I’m at, but I’m trying to get the new insurance company to use him. Don’t have any worries. My experience was excellent.
Feel free to pm me directly if you have more questions. He’s awesome.
Hi Bunny,
Where did you have your MVD? I had mine at Oregon OSHU. Unfortunately lasted only one month. I am reluctant to have i again unless I find a competent Dr, I am on Oxcarbazepene 600 mi daily seems to help 90% of the time
