I've been experiencing a lot of breakthrough pain for the last couple of months and I just want to tell someone who knows my pain. It's starting to distract me a great deal and it's affecting my quality of work. I have a doc appt next week, thankfully, and I'll be discussing the possibility of increasing my dose of tegretol (currently on 600mgs). I also found an acupuncture clinic right in my neighborhood and I'll be making an appointment with them.
You know what's almost worse than the pain? The ANXIETY that it's going to be as bad as it was before I was diagnosed and medicated. Grrrrrr!
I am so sorry you are going through this pain...glad you are going to your doctor next week. I would bet you will be counting the days, I know I did when I had the pain. I would discuss increasing the dosage if you can handle it, that sounds like a good start.
This pain sucks , it makes you hate life....I understand, and believe me, everyone on here does...feel free to vent away and know that you are not alone and that someone cares!!
Please keep updating how you are doing too!!

Oh gosh, work and two little ones, you’ve got a lot to deal with. When you go for your acupuncture appointment, be sure to tell them about the anxiety too. Acupuncture can help relieve some of that.
I go to Shaitsu massage when I can, works on similar principles, and it is very stress reducing. When we are anticipating the pain, or are experiencing a lot of pain, we tend to “guard” with our soft tissues and the muscles and fascia tighten up, which adds to the pain load. So I’m really hoping the acupuncture works for you.
Let us know how you’re doing. Venting is anxiety reducing too:-)

I increased my tegretol dose to 1000 a day. It has helped. But anxiety is killer
Does the acupuncture clinic have TN experience??? 600 is a low dose seemingly around here -- I never went over 600-900 before quick MVD....(meaning within a year of dx)
It sucks that TN causes stress and stress causes more TN pain!
Have you tried looking at lidocaine and other topical treatments? That is how I kept my med doses lower ---- look under the groups tab above -- there is a topical group with all kinds of concoctions that work Rx and OTC....
Keep us updated!
Hi Renee,
I have had to increase my dosage of tegretol to try and keep pain at at bay. It helps somewhat, but what are the alternatives. The meds just wreak havoc. The increase has come after failed MVD and newly diagnosed opposite side. We become so desperate with this disease with glimpses of hope to quiet the beast down. I know there are so many alternatives to try but we all know not everything works for all of us. The anxiety is an appendage of this disease. We all vent here its cathartic.
My Best
Joanne
Good news you’re finding some relief, Thermo. Now to approach that killer anxiety…
