Hello! I had MVD for GN done last Tuesday. Now the incision under the staples itches like mad! I have coconut oil that I put on all my family's scrapes, wounds, itches and meals (there truly seems to be no end to it's uses!) but I think the doctor said to keep the incision area dry. I have to call them later today, but was wondering if anyone knew offhand. Did you use anything on your incision?
My NS forbid me from putting anything on the incision. He said that it can cause you to get an infection. I was only allowed to put something on it a week or two AFTER the staples were removed. I would not put anything, even something natural like coconut oil, on it unless he/she gives the ok. You don't want to risk any complications. I feel for you though. It gets VERY itchy. And it's not just itchy because of the skin being dry, it can feel like it itches because of the nerves on your scalp. I had a numb-yet-itchy feeling for a few months after surgery.
I had my MVD 16 mounths ago…it itched for a few weeks but it went away…my even drip liquid for the first days…have pacience as long as the pain is not there…thank God for that …xoxo
If the itching is unbearable, I would ask your doctor.
I was forbidden to put anything on my incision as well.
I did develop a slight surface infection ( probably ingrown hair) at the base of my incision. My doctor prescribed an antibiotic cream to apply several times daily and this helped.
Itchy= Healing.
I was also told cocoa butter was good. I waited till after staples were out. I’ve been putting neosporin on the incision, has helped the scans heal faster. This was only after the skin was closed. After rinsing, gentle wash it feels better. Maybe a cool pack (cold washcloth in a ziplock) or ice pack will help temporarily relieve the itchiness?
Good luck!
My MVD was 6 months ago. From the day after the surgery the nurses were putting Chlorsig ointment on my staples twice daily. It made my hair gooey and greasy, but I had no tightness or itchiness at all. The day I left hospital (day 8) they took the staples out and told me I could put whatever I wanted on it. My cream of choice for scars etc is Nutrimetics Nutri-Rich Oil (Apricot Kernal Oil) - Nutrimetics is Australian (?). Worked a treat and you can't see my scar unless you really search.
