Again I’ve read that TN, quote, “is more often on the right side of the face” which intrigues me as mine is on my left! So just out of curiosity I thought I’d ask which side yours is on ? Or, if it is on both.
Mine in on the lower LEFT of the jaw.
Mine was always on the left side along the lower jaw line. Sometimes my left eye would twitch too. I had MVD in May 2009 and am pain free now.

Lyn,
Mine is on the right side. I have a few twinges on my left. Those showed up as my TN got much worse and before my surgery. I still occasionally have them but they are so minor that it is hard to classify them as TN. But as we all know, I know the signs.

Hi Lyn,
My TN is on both sides (bilateral) and in all three branches both sides as well. So I get TN attacks from my forehead to my lower jaw and from my ear to my nose and no longer get remissions either.

Mine is left side - right in my lower teeth
Mine is on my right side - upper teeth, ear, and below my eye. It almost always begins int ear now whereas it used to begin in my upper teeth on my right side. Lately I have felt ‘waves’ in my lip and occasionally on my left lower jaw. I’m hoping that the left side lower jaw is in my imagination. 0:-)
Thanks for the replies so far. A quick rec at this point, out of 8 people there are 5 left side, 2 right side & a bilateral - interesting!
i have bilateral and have it from head to jaw and i have never had a remission only a day or so in between attacks most i had was a 3 week break
Hi. I just wanted to throw my vote in! I have it on my left side - all 3 branches and never a pain-free day. I do sometimes have things on the right side but try hard to ignore them so don’t know if they are real or “in my head” so to speak. So count me as a left-sider.
I have mine on the right side. Middle and lower branches: cheekbone and jaw.
Hi Lyn,
Mine is on the left also. It was on the left middle prior to the Cyberknife procedure.

Mine is almost always on my left side, but just recently had my first (and worst ever) episode on my right!
Monica,
Sorry to hear that you have had the pain on both sides.

Left - upper and lower jaw and deep in the ear!
Mine was on my right side V2 but now i get attacks on my left side V2 WHATS NEXT!!!
Hi. I am new here as of today. I started out with TN only in and around my left eye for the past 2.5 years. The last few months though, I am getting “shocks” in my right cheek and above my right lip which is totally different than the pain on my left side. My Dr. says that it is probably referred pain and will go away after my MVD on June 1st. Has anyone had a MVD on one side and then the pain went away on the other?
Left side, the 2 lower branches
I raised this topic purely out of curiosity having read that TN is more often on the right side of the face on the TN UK website
“The trigeminal nerve has 3 branches (or divisions): the upper 1st branch (Ophthalmic) which runs above the eye, forehead and front of the head; the middle 2nd branch (Maxillary) which runs through the cheek, upper jaw, teeth and gum, side of the nose; the lower 3rd branch (Mandibular) which runs through the lower jaw, teeth and gums. TN can involve one or more branches. Most frequently, the middle and lower branches are affected. The majority of people affected are over 50 years old, but many cases have been reported in young adults, and very rarely among children. It affects women more than men, and it is more often on the right side of the face. It is not hereditary”
And yet so far there is 12 left, 4 right & 2 bilaterial on LWTN - interesting really!
Lyn
Kerry, what do you do for your pain? I also have it on both sides of my face and it is constant, burning, aching, stabbing, pressure…I am now on gabapentin, but am wondering about surgery options and if I should look into that. i don’t want to be on meds forever and I feel like I am popping pills all the time. Any advice?
