Is this TN?

Thanks for welcoming into the group as I have some questions.

I have had shooting stabbing pain for at least 6 years in the maxillary area, it feels like it’s right where the maxillary branch exits the foramen. It’s extremely intense, only last seconds and is debilitating during the zing. It’s dropped me to the floor. I’ve noticed it most while talking but otherwise I haven’t been able to pin-point a trigger. Very infrequent but in high stress times it happens sometimes a couple times a day.

During onset it only happened on the right side. I thought it was sinus pressure related and just dealt with it. Then it seemed to stop for awhile, but it’s returned and over the last year it now happens on the left side as well, in the same spot only this time it kind of lingers as a sensitivity in my teeth and cheek bone. The weird thing is I do get some warning of it happening and I find if I can squeeze or tense my muscles on that side of my face it seems to lessen the pain and duration. Or I feel like it does.

I work in a dental office and we have recommended two patients in the last year to see a neurologist in which they were both diagnosed with TN. The way they explained it I totally felt like I got it but not to their severity. It seemed their every waking hour was dedicated to finding relief. They did tell me it only lasted seconds but happened all through-out the day. I didn’t really think what I had was the same thing.

I am dealing with Hashimoto’s an auto-immune thyroid disease, that causes an array of symptoms and I kind of chalked the nerve pain to the Hashi’s. Only I didn’t like that it’s bilateral and I’ve had some severe swelling in my submandibular salivary glands, bilateral just recently. Not sure what or if it’s all related.

Any advice appreciated if you get through the novel good on ya!

I see my endo next week and really hate sounding like a hypochondriac and would like to know if my concerns are warranted.

Hi Glam, glad to hear you have an app. with your endo soon, we think it is warranted. The sooner you can try and calm down those nerves the better. We wish you the best! Gama and Punkin
