Is this normal?

Between my TN attacks I have days at a time where I have a constant ache, usually in my cheek or sometimes it feels like just one tooth hurts to where I can’t evendors bite down to touch that tooth with the bottom one, it almost feels like tin foil on a feeling. And I have one spit on the roof of my mouth where if my tongue or food touches it sends a shock to my temple or gums. Last night and this morning I had the more typical 2-3 minute major pains at different areas of my face. Is it normal to have the two different attacks deacribed?

Please excuse my typos as:/ I’m working from my phone!!

Hi TNSucks, indeed it sucks, I can totally relate to the pain you feel, I also have a constant ache in my cheek, gums, molars, all at the same time, on the right side. It feels like my teeth are rotten, yet I was told I have good teeth, just 2 fillings. Anyhow, thank God, my dentist referred me to a facial specialist who took a scan of my mouth and in turn, referred me to a neurologist, while putting me on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) 2 weeks ago, I went to see him again last week for a follow up (the facial specialist), he upped the dose as the pain is still there, he told me not to take any pain meds as they do nothing for TN. So, with a total of 1200mcg of that Gabapentin a day, I am still in pain, I took one 3hrs ago and have to wait for another 3 before I can take the next one and hope for relief....I think I can find another word for sucks, it stinks, it is excruciatingly painful and I can't stand it anymore...

Thank you Astrid8! I’m so sorry to hear that you’re suffering too but it does help to know I’m not alone. I was on Gabapebtin but I’ve been off it for almost a month as I got tired of having to up my dose so often in order for it to work and not to mention it made me gain weight. I’m considering getting back on it since I can’t hardly stand it anymore. It does seem like Tylenol PM helps. Thanks again for your response, hope you get some relief!

I’m so sorry that yall are dealing with the horrible pain. I have typical TN. My neurologist tried Tegretol (I’m highly allergic) and Gabapentin (it never took all the pain away even increasing doses). He switched me to Dilantin and it was amazing. No side effects. No problems. I tried to go from 300 Dilantin to 200 a day. Having breakthrough shocks. Went back to 300 Dilantin last week. Praying it takes me back to no shocks at all. Having 4-6 mild ones a day. I’m also trying B12 and low saturated fat diet.
