Hello Tomey,
From what I have known from talking with other TN patients, I believe that what Sheila says is probably true regarding people who have an existing problem with lactose or gluten. If an existing problem is present with these foods, it will worsen symptoms. I have heard no evidence of it's being able to cure the condition. But, please inform us of your progress with your new diet. The more we share, the more we know!
What I am fairly sure of is that eating healthy is the cornerstone of fighting chronic pain for many reasons. I do not want to negate your question, but rather to expand on it, I must mention that I am also trying a change in eating habits in an attempt to lessen ATN pain. It is diet related, so I felt it relevant to the discussion. It stand to reason to me that if one has inflammation of any type in the nervous system, an anti-inflammatory diet may be complimentary to medicine. So, this is the route I am about to try after my next grocery trip (which probably won't be today, as I am feeling drained).
You mention detoxification. I am assuming you mean complete cleansing of toxins to one's system? I have also wondered what benefits it may offer for this condition. I am not at liberty to try it, at this time. I cannot miss a beat raising two children. This means no down time. I am helplessly dependent upon any relief that my pain medication may bring. To try detoxification, for me, would take my only temporary exit door from pain away, and thus render me an invalid for a time, even if it did work in the long run. But, I would be curious to know the outcome others may have.
I was a younger women in good health upon onset of symptoms. So, I am sure of the fact that the medicine did not cause the pain. It is just the only thing I have found which, to any degree takes it away.
Here is the link to one of the articles I have read recently regarding foods which fight inflammation in the body. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FKA/is_4_69/ai_n19020308/
I really would like to expand upon your question, if I may, to include anything diet related which anyone in our group is trying, or has tried and has experiences success or failure with as far as their diet is concerned as related to their ATN symptoms.
Thanks for your question. Please let us know how it's going. I would like to know how this goes for you. I will do the same.
Stef
P.S. Sheila and patient in the next bed were both holding their faces (familiar enough pose, and it's why I used "The Scream" for the icon on this page. That's me a lot of times! I should not find this funny, and yet I do, because I have to laugh at this condition, or I would cry. Thanks for sharing, Sheila.
