Has anyone ever had any luck with dietary changes helping with your pain? I am not talking about overall feeling of wellness/health. I am talking about actually cutting down or eliminating the pain. I have had so many people come to me and suggest changing my diet to help, such as gluten free, no dairy or vegan. I did try the low saturated fat diet for almost 5 months and did not have any changes in my pain. The only thing I have found that affects my pain is aspartame. If I eat or drink anything with aspartame in it, I will have a bad episode of shocks not long after.
I get really tired of people's judgmental attitude that if I just changed what I ate I would be better. If I thought eating a certain way would take this pain away, you can be sure I would do it. SO, if you have found something that has helped I am all ears. Thanks y'all!
Don't listen to any judgemental bull****, they have no idea what TN pain is like!!! Everyone wants to offer suggestions, and some are so far out in left fields its crazy!! I had an MVD and its gone and my mother still questions if I was sick at all. huh?
The only thing that helped me with the pain, was actually drinking more coffee, I know it sounds crazy and it does make some people worse, but I found it eased it up.
I am sure some others will pop in and let you know if any diet helped them, but my theory is, if you find something that works for you than use it, even if its not the norm
Hi Crashgirl, I think that people are just suggesting dietary changes because they are not sure what to say anymore. Do not take it personal. If aspartame bothers you eliminate it.You have been able to target this as a problem for you. For me I cannot eat Chinese foor because the MSG triggers the nerves in my face. Everyone is different with foods its hard to find which ones cause a problem. I uppose you could speak with a nutritionist that may help Take care!
I agree to do what works for you. My own experience with diets: I did the low saturated fat diet religiously for 6 months and it did not help TN pain. For a year and a half now I've been totally gluten free and mostly fat free, and there's not one iota of difference in pain. In the past month I've been sugar free (and gluten free and mostly fat free) and my pain has kicked up a notch (I'm not suggesting a relationship). So these diets have not made a difference for me. I will say that I feel so much better healthwise on the gluten free diet, so I will stay on it.
When the pain first hit all I could do was a vegatarian diet. It hurt to chew anything. Since then i have become vegan, vegatables and fruits and to tell the truth, it did not help with the pain at all
thanks everyone for your replies. I never found anything, except for the low saturated fat diet, that would indicate diet helps with the pain. But I have never heard from anyone that it actually did help. I wanted to ask y'all because I have had several people ask me about it. Those that seemed to be judgmental about it had success with diet helping them with their health problems so they just assume that it would help me. I agree with Joanne that some people suggest a new diet because they do want to help but I also agree with Wendy that there are those out there that think their diet is best and if you aren't taking their advice then you really don't want to get better. Not all are being judgmental, but I definitely have had my fair share of those who are. I think both stem from an ignorance of our disease.
