Does anyone do this?? I get total pain relief for about three weeks, I get confident and think the T.N. has gone.I hate my meds, they make tired all the time, I cannot think..I stop taking half of them, 400mg of Carbamazepine and 50mg Pregabalin. Three days later I am still pain free, awake more, WOW...I will cut out another pill, the T.N has gone away, I am cured. Then Wham Bam the next day,I am in bed howling,I had forgotten how bad the pain is.Lectures from my husband, promise myself I won't do this again, its dangerous and stupid, until the next time......
YES ... It's totally hard remember that it's the drugs that are keeping the pain at bay. BUT, when that happens to me, I always remind myself "this too shall pass", it's not permanent. I'm slowly weaning off of Lyrica and Tegretol right now. I tried it once before (towards the end of 2011) and it was a disaster. I just went through MVD last month, so I hope that that is what is making me feel good this time. Fingers crossed. Sorry for the rambling, but yes I have done the exact same thing!!
All the best Jessica.I had an MVD 4 years ago.I had 2 years if complete relief, but it came back. How are you feeling after your MVD, mine was quite awful.Hope you recover soon.
Well I went in for MVD on Jan. 25th — and there actually wasn't a compression, like we'd thought. So basically my Dr. took my nerve bundle apart and back together (that's my un-technical way to describe it). So I guess it wasn't technically MVD, but I don't know what else to call it surgery wise. That's what I went in for, I just didn't come out with an inserted pillow. I am starting work again full time today and I have been feeling great. I only felt like crap for about 4 days. I was out of the hospital after 3 days ... I am just starting to wean off of Tegretol, which is totally terrifying. I'm already 1/2 way off of Lyrica and feeling good. I guess by touching the nerve, my Dr. said that often just re-shocks the nerve to calm down, re-start and that it will take months for it to all heal. I find the entire thing very interesting ... very annoying though that doesn't seem to be one answer. I'm so sorry that you had to go through surgery only to have it all come back!!
Hi Jacqueline,
Years ago, a friend named his car "Jacqueline".after Jacqueline Kennedy. But anyway, I've been blessed with ATN.I learned long ago not to skip my meds, Gabapentin and lamictal. These meds brought me back to life. My problem is when I take an extra hit of my breakthrough pain med (oxycodone) and become nearly pain free, I tend to talk and chew too much (ah,the simple pleasures of life). The next day my lower trigeminal becomes so tight my speech impediment and pain return to remind me ATN is still my faithful companion. Stay on those meds, Ms Cook.
My breakthrough med is Tramadol and I have started on Lidocaine patches. They are been researched and developed over here.I was completely pain free on 600mg of pregababelin, was plucking my eyebrows out and never felt a thing, ha ha.They just drove me a bit suicidal. GP offered stress management to help, I said to him, Yes I will saw your leg off and while you have that pain I will get you stress counselling!!
