Hey all! I had my mvd in Dec 2012 and it went well. I am down to very few prn meds because I have little to no TN pain, HOWEVER I still have that numbness from my muscles knitting together? It has a name but I can’t remember it. Feels like my hair is be pulled/numb/tingly weird feeling on the side of my head. It is driving me bonkers and the doctor just looks at me stupidly when I ask. Does anyone have any ideas as to if this is temporary or permanant? It started out all over the right side and now it is above my ear and a bit bigger so it is getting better I just have no idea how long it may last. Thanks in advance.
I had my MVD this Feb, 2014 and woke up with complete numbness of the rt side of my face. It was several days before I knew that it had improved a little. I now have those quirky numb, tight, tingly feelings you describe. Sometimes it feels like something is crawling under my skin. It's difficult to eat when I cannot feel the rt side of my tongue and mouth. Yes, I have wondered how long until I am "normal".
I didn't have that for long - BUT you MUST always remember - your head ---- went Shake, Rattle and Roll!!!!
It takes up to a full year for everything to feel normal.
If you have a problem like fluid in a pocket there - needs to be dealt with immediately..... Find a doctor that knows perhaps what you are trying to explain????
Maybe somebody else will chime in.
Desert dweller and kc dancer, first desert, I remember that feeling to this day! It took about 3-6 months to get full range of motion in my head and feeling back in my tounge but I still (after 15 months have the numb tingly weird feeling on the right side. It isn’t a huge area but it is very noticable. I take lyrica but it doesn’t help with it at all. I need a new neuro becuz mine was just awful and my neurosurgeon is in Seattle! I just get so frustrated by the feeling. It is so tender at times. Never thought it would feel like this so far down the but yes, they did cut into my noggin so patience is a virtue I guess.
My MVD was in May '13 so i'm about 10 months out. I still cannot feel the left side of my scalp or the top of my left ear. I had months and months of strange sensations/tingling which seem to have subsided but it continues to feel numb and strange. My surgeon said the numbness of my scalp is likely permanent due to the cutting of the cranial nerves. My MVD failed and I still have TN pain so comparatively the numbness does not bother me too much. I also had the "crawling" sensations that Desert Dweller has and those, thank goodness, have subsided as well.
Hope seeker, wow, first I’m sorry your mvd didn’t take. Is the pain as bad as it was? Don’t know if it helps or not but I didn’t think mine worked as well as it did until about a year after when I started to have the pain really subsided and now I’m on as needed meds. As for the sensation and the cranial nerves! Thank you, that is exactly what I’m feeling on my right side. I mean the scalp and the top of the ear and the feeling. I’m not excited about the feeling Not going away…that makes me want to cry, but I guess its better than my face being on fire everyday. I hope you are on some road to recovery!
That is a question with a answer that is as different as the individual. Wish I had a answer for you. I had that problem for a while after my first surgery. It is more related to stress headaches. Would feel like I was wearing a hat that was way too tight.
