How does everyone manage your side effects like fatigue, dizziness, confusion, memory loss from your meds and still manage day to day responsibilities Ever since my dose of oxcarbazepine has been raised to 1200 mgs I feel like a drunk person all day it makes it very hard to work and take care of all of my responsibilities. Does anyone else have this problem?
One day at a time. I take all of my meds at 4pm and make no plans. It allows me to "sleep off' much of it and take my kids to school and function a bit while they are home. Took alog time to get to this place. Trial and error. blessings~~
I take 3000mg of oxcarbazepine with 40mg of baclofen each day and I am finding it very difficult to get my work done at my job. I easily forget things. Sometimes my speech is not that great because I struggle for my words. I tried weaning off my meds with my doctor approval but ending up going right back on them after about 1 1/2 - 2 months. I just found this support group so I had not heard of anyone else having the memory problems. Is this normal?
90% of the anti-antileptics give 90% of us these issues..... It SUCKS! Drove me to surgery.....
Here's what I did:
To lower my meds and concentrate better - got the ideas from here.....
Asked for a low dose Rx of Ritalin for concentration and to fight the sleepiness - and it worked --
Asked for prescription lidocaine patches to ease the pain - and it worked.---MAGIC
If you have a neurologist that treats epileptic patients / TN patients etc.... they KNOW how sleepy//tired//drunk we get and give many of their patients low doses of ADHD meds to keep that to a minimum....
My gosh 3,000 mgs how do you hold your head up :o

I see a new doctor Wed hopefully he has some ideas. I feel like im in lala land. You can tell me something and I have to repeat it over and over in my head until I get where im going. Sometimes someone can something to me and it takes me forever to registrar what was said to me. I even fell asleep at work the other night sitting up at my desk, thank goodness I was alone or I would have been fired really quick!

I'm on a pretty high dose of gabapentin, and I recently discovered that taking half the dosage twice as often eliminates some of the worst side effects like blurry vision and lack of concentration. So far I haven't had any problems with breakthrough pain, and I'm feeling soooo much more like myself. I wish I'd done this long ago!
My answer is…barely and some days not at all! Lol but I try to keep a sense of humor even though it’s not a funny illness

I know it may sound odd, but since I know eating is a big trigger, I am now on herbalife. It has given me SO much more energy and helped the weight loss (from being unable to eat) slow down. Also, the ADD meds aren't a bad idea. Also . . . coffee lol As for the dizziness, there are some OTC meds that can help that. Not sure about the memory loss. Sorry, hope it gets better!
Hello, yes I do have the same side effect as you describe.I guess I have to put up with the unsteadiness and the unsharp thinking, rather then the pain.I take 800 mg of carbamazepine per day.In the summer, my TN goes into sort of a remisson, and it returns full strength in the fall, with a remission in the winter time, only to return againin the spring.I guess we have to put up with some side effects......good luck.....Dave W.
I have lost 35 pounds since it went into full force a year and a half ago. I live off of soup, slim fast shakes, protein shakes, and milk shakes after they melt and are not cold anymore. I needed to lose some weight but I dont think this way.......I miss food. I dream about steaks and hamburgers its getting bad haha. This is a new dr so im scared to ask about the ADD meds. My last doctor treated me like a drug seeker even though I only asked for pain medication once in 2 years and just enough to get past a bad bad episode. Now I feel every doctor is going to look at me this way :( I might try the herbalife, I have added way too many energy drinks to my diet trying to stay awake and for some reason caffeine is another trigger for me so at the end of the day im just more miserable.

Hi,
I suffered with the same side affects as you described and tried different meds, Oxycarbazepine was the one that had the fewest side affects for me but as the doseage was increased found it harder to operate and three weeks ago underwent MVD with much success, have you considered this?
