Has anyone tried ultrasound for pain?

I came across a website that offers pain relief with ultrasound, home used, hand held units. I have been asking around, and heard good things from 3 people, not so good from 1 person. I'd like to find a Dr. office where I can try it before I buy it, but no such thing in Cheapo Canada medical system. Has anyone used ultrasound? I had 2 treatments 10 years ago in a Dr. office and it stopped the pain immediately, but only for a few hours, same as meds. It would be awesome if this could replace the meds. Here's the site where I looked at home equipment. www.EZultrasound.com I'd appreciate your input.

Shelia,

I tried ultrasound about 4 years ago for bilateral TN pain. I did multiple treatments and did not get anything. Do not be discouraged from this though, my case is very complicated. Where is your pain? Would you try the at home treatment or go to a chiropractor etc?

If you would like another suggestion for alternative treatment, I would suggest accupuncture, but research a highly trainned one. It helped me for a while : )

Thanks Ally,

I did use acupuncture for a while, until it created scar tissue so it didn't work anymore. I'm not sure if this technology is even available to me within 250 miles. I will have to research it, but of course I'd like to try any method, to see if buying the home version would be helpful. My insurance doesn't cover chiropractic, and with the severity and urgency of atacks, chiropractors around here do not understand "emergency appointment needed". Mine is also complicated because of nerve irritation and inflammation due to lupus and auto-immune disease. One thing that works well is prescription diclofenac 7% cream. There is no smell, and it has qualities that are numbing, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant. I still need pain meds as well, but it helps when the pain meds are not enough. Also I made a ricebag from a washcloth, and I put it in the microwave for 1 minute, and its very soothing. Still hoping for something that would keep me out of the E.R. or even eliminate my need for meds.
Kind wishes, Sheila

Sheila,

I'll take a look at the site, but I should acknowledge up front that I'm skeptical. I've been talking with folks for 16 years about face pain. And I've never seen solid evidence that any form of ultrasound is effective for pain that derives from sites deep in the body. Testimonials are NOT sufficient evidence, by the way. They are the weakest form of suggestive evidence, and more often than not the most fervent testimonies are explainable as placebo effect.

This is a buyer beware market, Hon. I'd advise don't put money into something you haven't discussed with your medical primary care provider.

Red

Thank you Red.

I agree, EVERYTHING is "buyer beware", especially when people are trying to take money from people desperate with hopeless health conditions. I don't think this would completely erase the pain, but if it would make it bearable, it might be worth it. Like I've said before, I would want to try it first before investing money, or to find somewhere that offers a 30 day guarantee, so if it doesn't work, I could return it. I'm overly skeptical, cynical. I don't give a hoot about testimonials in the fliers of products. I want to talk to people who I already know who have experienced this. I have been able to do that, and have gotten some good reviews and some bad ones. As usual, people are so different, that different things work on some and don't work on others. I guess personal experience is the only way to tell, but if I could find a large number of TN users who got positive results, that would help me in my decision.

Blessings, Sheila
