Has Anyone Tried Cymbalta?

Has anyone tried Cymbalta? I’ve been taking it for a few weeks now and I’m not sure what to think. Initially I felt great, but now the end of my nose is so sensitive that to blow it I have to use a Q-tip instead of a Kleenex. Besides that the copay is crazy expensive, it makes me want to throw a brick at my TV every time I see a Cymbalta commercial!

Actually I was only on Cymbalta for a few months then stopped cold turkey. It is hard to say how effective it was for stopping TN pain...but when it came to constipation it was another thing!

It is now early January 2012, this should be my most debilitating part of the year. My routines of alternative therapy seem to be helping (Knock on wood!); the only meds I take at this time are an occasional gabapentin, other than that (as far as drugs are concerned) I'm more functional I've been at this time of year than I can remember in years.

My GP suggested I try it, but don't want to change meds right now. I have heard from a couple of people that it's helped their facial pain. Hope it helps you...

i do not have a large income and cant afford cymbalta i started taking for my fibromyalgia and it did great for that and my depression i was taking long before i was diagnosed with TN2 and TN1 i still have facial pain and TN1 attacks so im not sure if it really helps or not but if you want to see if you qualify for free cymbalta go to and apply it sure saved me and it is free for a year !!!! worth a try if it is free right?

I wasn't very impressed with Cymbalta myself, but everyone is different. It seemed to help a bit for a time but the honeymoon ended after a couple months. I'm glad to be rid of the expense...that was pain enuf!

I'm sorry to see you are a newcomer to this, unfortunately it isn't a very fun club...although if it weren't for the kindred spirits here, we'd be doing much worse!

I'll be thinking of you,

John

I did try Cymbalta and it did not really do anything for me. The doctor put me on Effexor XR because it has been showed to help with TN. It does come in generic form so it is pretty cheap.

Good luck,

Effexor XR...never heard of it, do you like it? What are the side effects?

I have not noticed any side effects. It is a relatively new to the generic scene. It just went generic last year. I like it better than the Cymbalta because I had side effects from the Cymbalta. It is widely used for Depression and Anxiety, but it does work for TN in accordance with other meds.

I take Effexor XR, Tegretol, Baclofen, Klonopin, Flexiril, and Vicodin 7.5/325.

Best of Luck,

LaLa

I would caution against the Effexor myself. I was given it for depression and it is a heavy antidepression/anxiety/panic disorder drug. I had never been given an anti-depressant before this. Within a week, I thought I was going crazy. I had these brain zap type feelings, I can't adequately describe it but it was some scary, scary business. When I researched the drug, I saw that there were a LOT of people having this phenomenan. Got to the point that the drug was causing panic attacks, not stopping them and within 2 weeks I was calling the doctor and he was promptly taking me off it.

All this to say, research it first big time if you have not been on it before.

Yes, definitely research your meds. I always do so before taking or agreeing to take any with my doctor and on my own. I have a medical backround so my knowledge of the different drugs and such is pretty good.
