Has anyone used Cymbalta for TN pain with success?
I havnt tried any of those yet but I want to maybe some kind that helps with anxiety cause I have it bad. they have told me I have atypical facial pain so not sure what pills to take
Cookster - put cymbalta in search box above - many have tried it - usually with another med.----It can have really bad side effects when you go off it
Jstagrl - you should ask one of your doctors for valium or clonazapam - can be very helpful at low dose for all kinds of anxiety
It didn’t work for me and after 3 months on cymbalta I have just had several weeks of absolute horror going through withdrawal symptoms. My neurologist (now ex) never mentioned possible side effects from going off this medication, I ended up at my local doctors feeling like I was going insane.
Good luck finding something that works for you, I find it exhausting swapping medications constantly.
Hugs trish
I added Cymbalta to my daily Tegretol dose and I saw a slight improvement in pain. I've been on Cymbalta for several years now and have never tried to stop taking it so I can't speak to withdrawal symptoms.
I hope it works for you if you try it.
cymbalta didnt do anything for me. it didnt relieve my pain at all. the dr gave it to me for nerve pain
I had a severe reaction to it, central nervous something, so I wasn't able to tell. My mother had some success with it but the side-effects were too much.
tried it. Had no success and the side effects were horrible. I gave up after three weeks. I then went on to Lyrica with no effect on the pain but easier side effects. Then moved on to Pristiq and it changed my life! Loved it and I could completely manage breakthrough pain. But, every time I had dental work I would have an attack and I would have to up the dosage and then try to reduce it once the pain was under control. It is very hard to withdrawl from so when you bring it up to higher doses, it is very hard to come down in dosage without horrible side effects. I was on it for three years. IT only comes in two doses, 50 mgs and 100mgs. It cannot be scored or cut either, to half the dose. After three years, I was having panic attacks and it made me super jittery and I was doing this crazy jaw clenching whenever I tried to come down on the dosage. So, now I am on Effexor. It comes in 37.5 mg tabs and it is much easier to increase and decrease/withdrawl from with fewer side effects. It it managing breakthrough pain ok and the side effects are minimal but I am sick of being on meds. Have been since 2004. I am going to have an MVD and hopefully get off all meds completely and try and get my life back!
They now want to put me on 20mg of Cymbalta. A long time ago, I was on 60 mg of it and 2500 of neurontin and I had no pain. However, I was off in zombie land. I also didn't like that I felt as though there was a fog in my head. It was very hard to get off and so I am really hesitant to get back on it.
Ive tried cymbalta (my former neuro tried me on it) but i didn’t have success. My new neurologist explained to me that it’s not very useful for TN pain. Although its used for nerve pain it depends on whats causing the nerve pain.
