After seeing my pcp she felt I would have better results with Cymbalta vs Effexor. Any feed back would be most helpful?
Hi I don't know your story or if your on anything besides this but I did see you have both TN1 and 2. I have TN2 mostly. The thing with Cymbalta and Effexor is they are just anti depressants. From just reading that there is a difference between that and a tricylic anti-depressants such as Nortriptyline which I am on and Amitriptyline. This pill has saved my life from the awful pain I was in. Im not sure if you can get any results from a anti depressant alone I havent tried that though Although I am familar with this drugs because I have had anxiety disorder all my life. Hope this helped some.
I was just told to make that same switch today by the pin specialist. He explained that they are two different types of anti depressant medications but also work for neurogenic pain. It isn’t to be used it’s own though as the previous poster said, but rather in combination with your other meds and only after tegretol alone hasn’t been successful. I don’t know yet if it’s better for TN, since I just started myself, but it’s worth a try. Good luck.
I use it with Teg and zanaflex. My doc says be patient sometimes 30 days to see small changes then up your dose to 60 mg . This seems to be the therapeutic level.
