I have been taking the new drug Oxtella XR now for 2 months and am experiencing low sodium, now i have to limit my intake of fluid to 32 ounces a day to balance out the low sodium in order to continue with this great new medication.
Oxtella is very effective so far but extremely expensive, it is a form of oxcarbazepine but is a time release medication.
i have been taking Oxetol xr (Oxcarbazepine) and i had a fatal episode of low sodium.which was promptly managed by my dr. at home .he gave me a fist full of common kitchen salt (sodium chloride) ORALLY. and i got my consciousness within 5 minuts. it is a very cheap home remedy to save life.now i am taking sodamint (sodium in form of pills) or a lot of salt regularly . paradoxically it increases blood pressure and i have to monitor them regularly.
Anita, fortunately my low sodium was discovered prior to any problems. I am only limiting my fluids to l liter per day and have no problem with this. My sodium is now at a normal stage and therefore need no additional medication.
The Oxtellar XR works well for me otherwise. No problem with high blood pressure too.
