Low sodium

Has anybody else had problems with low sodium on Trileptal ?

I feel like if I eat anything high sodium the pain is worst that night as well as when I take vitamin D suplements even Tums. I don’t really know if it’s all in my mind, though.

I know it's one of the severe call your doctor side effects. Have you contacted your doc?

Yes Tikal my Nero is on vac …they put me on a sodium pill daily until she gets back to see if see wants to change my med… I’m sure she will… Is there any good ones out there (med)

The only one I've been on is trileptal but I'm sure other people will know.

Tikal … Be sure and do your blood work on this med… It’s known for pulling the sodium out of your body

I will, thank you.

I'm on Trileptal too and I still have a problem with sodium.

Mitzi., have they said anything about changing your med? I hate switching cause its doing the Job except for the sodium…

I already tried gabapentin and Lyrica and neither one of them take away the pain, if anything, they make the pain get worst for about 7 hrs. This is the only one that works with baclofen, within an 30 minutes to 1 hr after I take it, although I have a "live" nerve on the tip of my bottom lip that gets worst when I take the Trileptal. I wish they could come up with something better, I'm doing the search myself so that I can tell the Drs. what to prescribe, because they don't know anything.

Yes I was on gabapentin also my vision got real blurred… think I’m gotta take the tegatrol if I have a choice…

My sodium has been low since I switched to Trileptal. I was told if it doesn't drop quickly it isn't that dangerous to be a little low. Mine was dropping each time I had it checked (every two weeks). I drank V8 every day for a month and brought it up to 132, which is still a bit low but now I'm holding that so they weren't concerned. I just switched from Tegretol because of the major brain fog. It seems to take me a good 3 - 4 months to get used to a medication so I hope I don't have to switch again any time soon.

That's good to know, I think the Dr. who prescribed Trileptal to me doesn't know anything about this, because he hasn't even mentioned that I should check my sodium blood level at all.

I remember when I first started taking it, I felt like I wanted to eat salty stuff, and I've never crave salt in my life, instead I like chocolate and sweets. But lately, everytime I eat salty food, my body gets bloatted and the TN nerve gets wickedly hot and painful.

Mitzi you need blood work on any seizure med I’m pretty sure they check sodium , liver, kidneys I know mine does… You might wanna call your dr and ask especially if you’ve been on it a period of time… Good luck

Thank you, I will. I'm so glad you brought that up. :)

I am on Tegretol and I am pain free. I have been sweaty lately. Yesterday I had the chills and couldn't eat. The chills went to 103 degree fever. This morning is is 101. Anyone else have that type of reaction?
