Gabapentin...so far so good

From reading other members comments on here, I realise at the moment how lucky I have been as I am now 1 week into gabapentin and have as yet, had complete rest bite from the horrid pain by taking it. I was so worried about taking any drugs that were explained to me as ‘epilepsy’ drugs. fair enough, during my attacks I would have taken anything to get rid, but in the long term I freaked out about having a pill that I thought would have awful side effects. Yes, first few days I felt like I had flu, head of wool and generally like utter sh@te but…it stopped the pain. So, I hope that I can reassure anyone that is new to this painful, sickening crappy condition that if you can get away with gabapentin…grab it with both hands!! I know how lucky I am to have had this help me, given the amount of poor sufferers that find no relief from this. But if you find yourself on here at 3am, when you are racked with pain yet not wanting to wake up your partner like I did, I hope that this will shine a shred of hope for you x

My spouse has been taking 2700 mg/day of Neurontin (Gabapentin) for the past 13 years or so, with minimal side effects. Not everybody does as well on it, but the med tends to be better tolerated by many patients than Tegretol. It is also not as hard on the liver, being differently metabolized.

I wish you continued success, Kimmy.

Gabapentin works great for me too. 900mg 3xday. I sometimes get a breakthrough jolt now and then but right now virtually attack free. I think I am also in one of my what I call "grace periods". Here's to continued relief for you as well. God Bless
