Flying after surgery

I know this has been discussed before.

I have 10 screws in my head after the MVD and the plate they put in for the hole they drilled.

can you fly after having an MVD done

Me and the girlfriend were wanting to go to hawaii.

Rick

Rick-

I have flown multiple times after MVD’s. I have had 4. I didn’t do well with flying prior to MVD’s. Last time I flew was over a year ago, I had no problmes, but at that time I was doing fine with pain. of

I don’t have that many screws though or a plate? Who did your MVD?

Best of luck!

Rick,
I have no idea how many screws I have. But I assume not many because the plate isn’t very big. Hawaii sounds like a great vacation. Does anyone know if flying can increase TN pain?
Liz

Rick,

I fly often for work and have had 2 MVD’s. I haven’t had a problem with the plate or screws in my head. I also have screws in my knee from an ACL reconstruction. All are titanium so they don’t set off the metal detectors so you shouldn’t have a problems.

Sometimes I fly perfect with no pain and sometimes I am miserable. I was most miserable coming back from my honeymoon. I think its can be attributed to the altitude and the changes that the pilot makes.

Best of Luck.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
Ally I had my MVD performed by BenjaminWhite who is a great surgeon.
I was reading the operation notes and they said the plate was fabricated during surgery and 10 screws attached it.
During the pre op discussion with Dr. White he said it was like a mesh so I really dont know if thats a plate.
I am assuming it is.
I wouldn’t have changed anything about my MVD-my surgeon was so awesome.
The only thing that was bad was the nausea and sickness I encountered right after the surgery.
I think I threw up like 3 times.
Also I encountered shocking pains in my legs and Dr.White said it might have been chemical menangitis from the anesethia.
Overall a good experience and it has helped a lot.

So happy to hear that you like your surgeon and that the MVD helped! Don’t feel alone with threw up for like 30 hours straight after DREZ. It was horrible. I am not exaggerating! so know you are not alone. enjoy your vactions and a life with less pain!!!

I’ve been playing catch-up lately and ‘flying after surgery’, though a recent discussion, makes me cry.

I read it more as ‘flying with/TN’…my son walked my daughter down the aisle, because dad couldn’t fly the 2,000 miles to where she lives.

This was before surgeries! That ‘spin-off’ of TN, from so-called ‘adverse reactions’ to medication.

My tears turn to laughter, joy and pride; that my son stood in for his dad. bob
