First symptoms of TN was brought on by water contact to face

Has anyone started their symptom history with “Water”.
Over a period of 6 years my first encounter of facial pain was brought on with the introduction of water to the face. Whether it was washing my face, or showering. It all was prompted by wetness to the face. It didn’t matter if it was hot or cold or in between.
Over time, it has graduated to just about anything will now aggravate the pain. What did I ever do.!

You didn't do anything! Yes, the shower kills my face. I cup my hand over the specific side so that the water doesn't contact my face. Another problem for me is wind and sometime talking. If it is windy, I have to cover my face. Most of this pain is from vibration of the Trigeminal nerve. If you are talking a correct dose of anti-convulsant meds., it should help with the severity of the jolts. Good luck!

Same here. I had the exact same issue. It did go away after a long while. I still cover my left side of the face while in the shower.

Hope it goes away for you as well.

Was it water, or the position of your neck and face when bating which often includes backward bending of the upper neck whether in the shower or at the sink and is the position that compresses the structures of the neck and so if you have problems there then these actions may aggravate symptoms whereas forward bending of the neck may well relieve symptoms.

Contact with water or wind are very common triggers on TN pain. Many of us have trouble having showers, brushing our hair, being near a fan or a/c, having the window down in the car. I am not affected by water but am by wind no matter how I am sitting or standing. It is actually one of the symptoms used for diagnosis.

Sure they are triggers, but are not solely part of diagnostic criteria for TN and are meaningless as an indication of the cause of TN. Diagnosis does not imply a cause. Moth's popularity rating probably hitting a new low, don't particularly care, but do care when MVD is proposed for a possible cervical cause, which should at least be investigated first.
