I am fairly new to TN and have been on Tegritol for 4 months. Talking, a breeze, blowdrying my hair, eating, smiling, laying on my side are all triggers that cause breakthrough pain, but if my kids kiss me on the cheek or I touch my face it is fine -- no pain. Does anyone else find this?
Yes! I thought from what I have seen with others I was weird at everything else setting it off but not touch. Breezes and cold food/drink will cause pain (am knitting myself a big scarf for winter as it's autumn here!). From what you have posted before our TN seems quite identical, it does cement in my mind that this IS TN if you have the same symptoms as me (stupid neuro that said it wasn't!) :P
I was so glad to hear from you. I know what you mean about a scarf. It is spring here but even a slight breeze sets it off and I look ridiculous wearing a toque and a skiing tube around my face. Does the wind cause instant pain for you or is it delayed? Did the neuro tell you it wasn't TN? My neuro said it was but I did not like her and have been waiting 5 months to see another and becoming very anxious to see him and am hoping that he will tell me drugs are not my only choice. Has your neuro told you if you have any other options? I noticed you keep upping your neurontin; I keep upping my tegretol. It is so scary! Best wishes!!

This may be a theory,,, not sure yet. Maybe it only happens when it is unexpected. Like when I hear unexpected LOUD sounds. My ear will hurt from it immensely. But sometimes it will still hurt when it is loud and I see it coming. LOL ... I don't know how this theory would relate to cold food tho.. except that anything you know out of the fridge is GOING to be cold.. but it takes awhile after you've had TN to determine which foods are going to cause you the most trouble AND keep in mind that your pain moves around too. It will move to different areas as well, but with the wind..it comes from all different sides and you never know when it will be too cold.. you can guess according to temp outside but you can never be totally sure.. so it's good to always to wear a scarf ALL year round... GUESS they should start calling us SCARFIES instead of TN'rs...
But I do think there are triggers for many people and in some areas. But I do understand what you are saying Collette. I get the pain from unexpected sources. . Plus I do touch my face and then nothing. ??
